Suzuki Philippines, Inc. (SPI), the official distributor of Suzuki vehicles in the country, is hailed as the leading car brand in April 2021 as per the sales report from the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc. (AVID). The Japanese car brand managed to sell a total of 1,695 units last month.

For SPI’s passenger cars (PC) segment, it managed to sell 591 units. Meanwhile, the brand sold as much as 1,104 units for its light commercial vehicles (LCV) segment. This signifies that more Filipino car buyers are in the market for reliable and dependable business movers.
Under the Japanese car brand’s PC segment, it is offering the local market practical and efficient vehicles such as the Ertiga, S-Presso, Dzire, Swift, and APV. The Suzuki S-Presso is the brand’s entry-level vehicle with a price point of Php 523,000 for the sole GL 1.0 MT variant.
The brand’s LCV segment, on the other hand, offers the Suzuki Carry which can be configured depending on the buyer’s preference. Some of which include a cab and chassis, utility van, and cargo van. The LCV is powered by a 1.5-liter K15B gasoline engine capable of making 95 hp and 135 Nm of torque.

Reliable and dependable workhorse from Suzuki
Trailing SPI in the top spot under the LCV segment is Ford Group Philippines, Inc. (FGI) with 1,368 units sold, then followed by Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) with 603 units sold in April 2021. Part of Ford’s success is the Ranger midsize pickup truck which has been the American car brand’s best-selling unit since last year.
Overall, local car brands under AVID sold 4,496 units last April 2021, which includes the commercial vehicle (CV) segment. The numbers are, unfortunately, 13 percent lower as compared to March 2021’s 5,193 units sold.
