For those wondering what the BR-V means in the Honda BR-V nameplate, it stands for Bold Runabout Vehicle. It is tagged as a powerful, muscular, and sporty car. The Honda BR-V is one of those vehicles that started a new age of vehicle type – it is a crossover with the looks of an SUV and cabin specifications of an MPV. Although it might be a bit confusing, but the vehicle was introduced as a compact crossover SUV in September 2016.
Honda showcased the Honda BR-V at the Philippine International Motor Show. Since then, it became part of the most adored models in its class because of its affordability and features.
In 2019, Honda BR-V received small updates, particularly with its interior and exterior design. It was also equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for seamless smartphone integration.
Honda BR-V has the looks of an SUV, but when it comes to practicality, it can be considered as an MPV. This is because the vehicle's exterior features a massive 201 mm ground clearance and beefy design. To further boost its height, Honda equipped the Honda BR-V with 16-inch alloy wheels. The refreshed version of the model features a more prominent grille. For distinction, it also gets additional slat.
Honda Cars Philippines Inc. offers the Honda BR-V in six color options, namely Taffeta White, Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, Premium Amber Metallic, and the new colors are Platinum White Pearl and Passion Red Pearl.
The Honda BR-V can accommodate seven occupants up to the last row. Second-row seats can slide into a position to provide more flexibility for the last row occupants. The cabin is dominated mainly by plastics, polyurethane, and fabric. The top-range V variants get an advantage with leather accents and stitches. Manual climate control takes care of the cabin's air conditioning. Rear passengers can utilize separate air-con console with separate controls.
The cabin space of the Honda BR-V has 223 liters of cargo capacity. Automatic climate control, push-start button, and driver's seat that can be adjusted manually are some of the other interior features present in the Honda BR-V.
Technology & Safety Features
In order to have an affordable price tag, Honda BR-V does not have much of tech features to offer. But it is still improved with the addition of the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in its top-spec variants. The vehicle also comes with basic convenience features such as powered central locking, power up/down windows, and power-adjustable mirrors.
In terms of safety, this crossover comes with ABS with EBD, dual airbags, ISOFIX child tethers, and stability control. Hill-start Assist, and stability control comes as standard across the Honda BR-V lineup.
The model received a five star ASEAN NCAP rating for the adult occupancy protection when tested in 2015. However, in terms of child occupancy protection, it only got four stars.
Platform & Chassis
Honda BR-V is a five-door subcompact crossover SUV and can accommodate seven occupants. Technically, its monocoque body construction makes it seem like it is built as a crossover. It has Honda Global Small Car Platform underpinning and MacPherson struts for the front suspension and torsion beam axle for the rear setup. Stopping power is delivered by front ventilated discs and drums at the back.
In terms of dimension, Honda BR-V has a length of 4456 mm, a width of 1735 mm, a wheelbase of 2662 mm, and a ground clearance of 201 mm. The ground clearance provides better handling when cornering.
Engine & Drivetrain
Honda BR-V is powered by a 1497 cc 1.5L gasoline engine, 4 Cylinder 16 Valve SOHC paired to the Continuously Variable Transmission developed by Honda Earth Dreams. This power source creates 118 horsepower and 145 Newton-meter of torque. The same engine is also equipped to the Honda Mobilio and Honda Jazz.
This setup makes the Honda BR-V a fuel-efficient vehicle. The continuous variable transmission makes the engine of the car operate at the most efficient revolutions per minute. In addition, since the engine is also employed with Honda Earth Dreams technology, it not only makes the vehicle more fuel-efficient but also makes it environment-friendly because of its low emissions.
