Honda Cars Philippines also sold more than 700 all-new CR-V units last year.

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) had a good sales run last year as it registered 16,645 units sold, according to the joint report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).

The number of units sold by Honda Cars Philippines translates to a 20 percent increase compared to its sales performance in 2022. The model that led the charge for HCPI is the Honda BR-V, a seven-seater MPV introduced in the local market last November 2022. 

HCPI shared that the BR-V posted over 6,800 units sold in 2023, making it the best-selling Honda vehicle in the Philippines last year. In fact, the Honda BR-V breached the 5,000 units sales milestone in the Philippines in July 2023, a testament to the MPV’s appeal in the market.

The Honda BR-V is available in four variants with a starting price of Php 1,090,000 for the entry-level trim that comes with a manual transmission. The top-spec BR-V, on the other hand, retails at Php 1,390,000. Of note, the top-spec BR-V is equipped with Honda Sensing advanced driver assistance system.   

Under the hood, all Honda BR-V variants in the Philippines are powered by a 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC gasoline engine that delivers 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to either a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The second best-selling Honda vehicle in the country last year was the refreshed City Sedan, which yielded over 3,400 units sold. The updated Honda City Sedan debuted in the Philippines last July 2023, and all of its four variant options come with Honda Sensing tech. Pricing for this Honda subcompact sedan starts at Php 973,000 while the top-spec trim is priced at Php 1,128,000.

The third best-selling Honda in the country last 2023 is the facelifted Brio, which registered over 2,500 units sold. The facelifted Honda Brio debuted in the local market alongside the refreshed City Sedan. The Brio is available in four variants with a starting price of Php 735,000.

Aside from the top three best-selling Honda vehicles, HCPI also shared that it has managed to roll out over 700 units of the all-new CR-V, a model that was launched in the local market in September 2023. It is available in three variants: V Turbo CVT (Php 2,100,000), VX Turbo CVT AWD (Php 2,280,000), and RS e:HEV E-CVT (Php 2,590,000).

Interestingly, the top-spec all-new Honda CR-V e:HEV hybrid accounted for 262 units sold, which is around 37 percent of the next-generation CR-V sales in 2023.  

The 2024 Honda CR-V e:HEV uses a 2.0-liter VTEC gasoline engine paired with a dual motor and lithium-ion battery. The gasoline engine can put out 146 horsepower and 183 Nm of torque. The dual motors or the hybrid powertrain meanwhile, add 181 horsepower and 335 Nm of torque to its output. Honda claimed that the CR-V hybrid could generate a combined power output of 204 hp.

Honda BR-V

The 2024 Honda BR-V is a seven-seater compact MPV. It is now in its 2nd-gen version, and it has four different variants in the local market. There’s the top-spec VX Honda Sensing priced at 1,390,000, the V CVT priced at Php 1,295,000, the S CVT which has a price tag of Php 1,190,000, and the entry-level S MT priced at Php 1,090,000. 

Under the hood of the Honda BR-V is a 1.5-liter gasoline inline-4 engine that’s capable of making up to 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. Sending power to its front wheels is a continuously variable transmission (CVT). 

Size-wise, the all-new BR-V is 4,490mm long, 1,780mm wide, and 1,685mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,700mm and a ground clearance of 207mm.                  

In the local market, the Honda BR-V competes against the Toyota Avanza, Hyundai Staria, Nissan Livina, and Mitsubishi Xpander, among others.

The all-new 2024 Honda BR-V was introduced to the Philippine market on November 21, 2022. Its initial debut occurred back on November 3, 2022, in Indonesia. For the Philippine market, its variants include the S MT and S CVT, the mid-spec V, and the top-spec VX Honda Sensing. 

Honda BR-V Exterior

Depending on the trim, the BR-V gets full LED lighting with automatic headlamps and high beam assist. It also has LED taillights, LED daytime running lamps, and front fog lamps. 

Also present on this MPV’s exterior are a pair of power folding side mirrors, a rear wiper, a shark-fin antenna, and a set of 17-inch wheels.

Inside the BR-V is a cabin that can seat up to seven. The top-spec model gets leather for the seats, steering wheel, as well as its gear shifter.  

The said seats can also be folded down for more cargo space. For the second row, it is 60:40 split-folding, while the third row is 50:50 split-folding.  

Keeping its occupants cool is an automatic air-conditioning system. A push-to-start button, a second-row armrest, illuminated sun visors, and an ample amount of bottle and cup holders are also present in this model.

Handling the entertainment needs of the BR-V's occupants is a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity. This headunit is then linked to a six-piece speaker system. The BR-V also has USB charging ports. 

The top-spec BR-V gets a total of six airbags. It also comes with the Honda LaneWatch blind spot camera and the Honda Sensing driver assistive suite. 

The said suite includes adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning.  

Also present on the Philippine-spec BR-V is an immobilizer and security alarm, hill-start assist, stability control, anti-lock braking with EBD, parking sensors, and a parking camera.

For its front, it uses a MacPherson strut, and its rear gets a torsion beam suspension. It then gets front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, and a hand-operated manual parking brake.
