2024 Mitsubishi Triton now in PH with P1.134 million starting price

Mitsubishi Philippines officially launches the 2024 Triton for the Philippine market. It rolls out as the Japanese brand’s new contender in the local pickup truck segment a year after its initial release in Japan back in 2023.

Now in its sixth generation, this all-new model ditches the old Strada name for a new one that aligns with the global market. Along with that, the all-new Triton gets loads of improvements from the inside out.

So what can prospective buyers of the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton expect? Let’s go over its features and specs to find the answer.

Up front, the top-spec Triton Athlete gets a square-shaped grille with three horizontal slats, which is flanked by a pair of LED headlamp clusters. Above the headlamps are a pair of thin LED daytime running lamps, while more forward illumination is provided by a pair of LED fog lamps, just below the main headlamp clusters. Further down below is a grey-colored skid plate.

From the side, the all-new Mitsubishi pickup truck gets beefy fender flares, metallic black roof rails, and a set of 18-inch black alloy wheels. This is paired with heated power-folding side mirrors and a mostly black-colored angular sports bar. From this angle, the truck likewise employs a straight body line with its hood aligning with the bed.

Towards the rear, the Triton is equipped with a pair of large, rectangular LED taillights that wrap around towards the side. Between those is a tailgate which grants access to the truck’s bed. Standard on all variants is a bedliner and cargo hooks.

Size-wise, the all-new Mitsubishi pickup truck’s top-spec version is 5,360mm long, 1,930mm wide, and 1,815mm in height. Its wheelbase spans 3,130mm, and its top-spec trims offer a ground clearance of 222mm.

At its heaviest, this Mitsubishi-made pickup truck has a curb weight of 2,035 kg.

Interior

At maximum, the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton can comfortably seat up to five occupants. For the higher-end variants, most surfaces inside the truck like its dashboard and interior door cards, are covered in soft-touch materials.

For the solid parts, these get either silver, grey, or piano black trim pieces. The seats of the top-spec version are all covered in a two-tone synthetic leather fabric with quilted suede inserts.

When it comes to its front cabin specifically, this truck gets a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat and a manually adjustable front passenger seat.

Likewise present in this section are a push-to-start button, physical buttons for the dual-zone automatic climate control system, a tilt and telescopic steering column, a floating-type central touchscreen, analog gauge clusters, and a seven-inch digital driver’s display, a 12-volt socket, USB ports, among others.

The rear cabin meanwhile, gets two USB ports and a folding rear seat-mounted center armrest equipped with cupholders. The armrest can only be used when two are occupying the rear seats, though more cupholders are accessible for the rear occupants from the rear center console.

Tech & Safety

For the all-new Triton, Mitsubishi decided to go heavy on safety technologies. Depending on the trim, this pickup truck model is kitted out with autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring and warning, lane change assist, automatic high beams, and plenty of others.

Those high-tech safety bits are supported by several standard safety features like anti-lock braking, stability control, traction control, trailer stability assist, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, active yaw control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, parking sensors, a 360-degree view camera, engine immobilizer with keyless operation system, as well as a total of seven airbags.

For in-car entertainment and communication, the top-spec trim uses a nine-inch touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This screen is linked to a six-piece speaker system, and it also comes paired with a wireless smartphone charging pad (Athlete and GLS).

Engine & Performance

Propelling the top-spec Triton Athlete is a 2.4-liter two-stage turbocharged diesel engine that can output up to 201 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque. The said engine is then paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox, while power is sent to all four wheels via the Mitsubishi Super Select 4WD-II system.

Other variants of the all-new model then get a 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel mill with a scaled-down tune of 180 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. Depending on the variant, this engine is paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

As a side note, the 2.4-liter engine with a two-stage turbo for the Triton Athlete is compliant with the higher Euro 5 emissions standards. The 2.4-liter mill on the other variants meanwhile, is compliant with Euro 4 emissions standards.

For its off-road-focused components, the Super Select 4WD-II system on the Triton Athlete features four modes. These are 2-H (4x2), 4-H (4x4 high), 4HLc (4x4 high with locked differential), and 4LLc (4x4 low with locked differential.) The said system works in tandem with a total of seven driving modes. The latter includes normal, eco, gravel, mud, snow, sand, and rock.

Other 4x4 trims like the GLX MT 4x4 and the GLX AT 4x4 use the simpler Easy Select 4WD system. All 4x4 variants likewise feature a locking differential.

To ensure ride comfort and off-road stability, the Triton uses a double-wishbone front suspension and a rear leaf-spring suspension. Braking for this model is performed by front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.

The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton is a pickup truck for the Philippine market. It is the next-gen iteration model replacing the old Mitsubishi Strada. 

In the Philippine market, the Triton has a total of seven available variants. There’s the GL 4x2 MT, GLX 4x2 MT, GLX 4x2 AT, GLS 4x2 AT, GL 4x4 MT, GLX 4x4 MT, and the Athlete 4x4 AT. The price range for these trims starts at Php 1,134,000 for the entry-level GL 4x2 AT. The top-spec Athlete variant meanwhile, retails at Php 1,909,000.

There are two available versions of the Triton’s 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine. For the non-Athlete trims, the engine as mentioned earlier can make up to 180 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. The Athlete meanwhile, gets a more powerful tune at 201 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque.

Depending on the variant, the Triton either comes with a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. Likewise present is a 4x4 drivetrain and a 4x2 drivetrain. 

Size-wise, the Triton at its largest is 5,360mm long, 1,930mm wide, and 1,815mm in height. The top-spec model also has a total of 222mm of ground clearance. 

Locally, the Philippine-spec 2024 Mitsubishi Triton competes against the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, Nissan Navara, Mazda BT-50, Ford Ranger, and Foton Thunder, among others.
