Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corporation (MMPC) announced that the Triton will be arriving in the country in January 2024.
Next-gen Mitsubishi Triton
Yes, MMPC is dropping the Strada name along with the outgoing fifth-gen iteration. The news was confirmed at the company’s 60th Anniversary Expo where the XRT Concept is displayed until August 13, 2023.
Debuted at the 44th Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) the XRT concept previewed the next-generation Mitsubishi Strada. The pickup truck concept wowed eventgoers with its muscular design, which, at that time, was apparent even under camouflage.
With the covers now unwrapped, we see the new sixth-gen version designed with the “beast mode” concept. It comes with a rectangular version of the brand’s signature Dynamic Shield face grille, a pair of three-bar LED daytime running lights (DRLs), pronounced fender flares, and T-shaped taillights.
The Mitsubishi Strada name will be discontinued soon
The truck’s interior also features a robust finish, with the dashboard sporting rectangular air-conditioning vents. A nine-inch infotainment touchscreen is mounted on top of the dash, which supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes with a wireless charger, enhancing the truck’s tech amenities.
Under the hood is a new 2.4-liter turbodiesel 4N16 engine available in two tunes. The 4x4 Triton variants can generate 201 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the mid-output motor for both 4x4 and 4x2 versions can make 181 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. The engine can be paired to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Of note, the said features are from the Thai-spec Mitsubishi Triton. More details regarding the PH-spec Triton should be revealed closer to the launch in early 2024.
The next-gen iteration is arriving in the Philippines next year
The XRT Concept is displayed alongside the XFC Concept, which we know now as the Xforce. It is a subcompact crossover that will also be launched in the country, joining the Outlander in the brand’s local crossover lineup. Two of the new features include a Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium sound system and a Wet Mode, which is ideal for countries with a rainy season, like the Philippines.
