It gets more driving-centric features and a beastly exterior design.

The fourth-generation 2024 Mitsubishi Strada (Triton) has officially debuted in Thailand. For the Land of Smiles, the all-new pickup truck is offered in eight variants, subdivided into two body styles and three primary trim levels.

Note that this is a significant development for the Japanese car brand and the Strada model. It has been seven years since it saw a full-generation change. It’s also been three years since the truck received a new look with the last being the facelift which was released locally back in 2019.

So what are the improvements provided on the all-new Strada? What can prospective buyers expect from this next-gen truck?

Exterior

As previewed by the XRT Concept, the next-gen Strada gets an aggressive appearance. It sports a rectangular version of the Dynamic Shield Face grille, and a pair of three-bar LED daytime running lamps. Below the latter is the vehicle’s main LED headlamp clusters.

On the sides of the pickup truck, one can find a wealth of horizontal lines. These are accentuated by a set of prominent fender flares. Deep character lines run on the lower door sections, on its front quarter, and along the rear quarter towards the rear.

Over to the rear end, the truck then gets T-shaped taillights and a subtle tailgate spoiler for improved aerodynamics. According to Mitsubishi, the tailgate gets an upgraded damper system for easier access to the bed.

In terms of size, the Strada’s double cab 4x4 versions are a great deal larger compared to the currently available Philippine-spec model. It is 5,360mm long, 1,930mm wide, and 1,815mm high. This means that it is 50mm longer, 115mm wider, and 20mm taller compared to Strada Athlete.

The 4x2 double cab versions meanwhile, are a bit smaller at 5,320mm long, 1,865mm wide, and 1,795mm tall. But still, this is still longer and wider than the top-spec Strada currently sold locally.

Interior

Just like the aggressive exterior, the interior of the 2024 Strada was likewise designed to look robust and straightforward. There are plenty of horizontal lines in the cabin, especially on the dashboard which now features rectangular air-conditioning vents.

On top of the said vent is a new floating-type screen while found below are physical controls for the vehicle’s automatic air-conditioning system. The driver meanwhile gets an improved gauge cluster with a wider center digital information display, as well as a new steering wheel that is sleeker compared to the old wheel.

According to the Mitsubishi, the cabin in its entirety was designed with the professional in mind. The brand claims the rear cabin has enough space for a person to work on their laptops. It also features larger door handles, while touchpoints were optimized for grip comfort.

Tech & Safety

Floating above the Strada’s dashboard within reach of the front cabin occupants is a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which will work well with the vehicle’s wireless smartphone charging pad.

Just like the older Strada, the next-gen model gets anti-lock braking, active stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, and hill descent control.

Supporting those are a host of active features. These now include an adaptive cruise control system, rear automatic emergency braking, and a traffic sign recognition system. Its forward-collision mitigation feature was also updated to work on intersections, and it is now able to detect pedestrians and cyclists.

Likewise added is a front-cross traffic alert system that can alert the driver of oncoming vehicles. Driver alertness is then ensured by its driver monitoring system and driver attention alert.

Depending on the region, the model will also have access to the brand’s “connected services.”  Some examples of these are an emergency service, roadside assistance, and a car locator function.

Engine & Performance

The next-gen 2024 Strada is powered by the new 2.4-liter turbodiesel 4N16 engine which comes in two different states of tune depending on the variant.

For the Thai market, the high output tune that’s good for 201 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque is only available for the 4x4 Strada variants. The mid-output motor for both 4x4 and 4x2 versions meanwhile, can deliver 181 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque.

Available transmissions for this next-gen Mitsubishi model include a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Making an appearance on the all-new Strada model is Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II. It gets four different drivetrain modes: a rear-wheel-drive mode, a four-high (4H) mode, a four-high mode with a locked differential (4HLc), and a four-low mode w/ locked differential (4LLc).

Mitsubishi says that its 4H mode is particularly special. Thanks to a torque-sensing center differential, one can use the truck’s 4x4 system without compromising its handling. The brand also upgraded the truck’s terrain selectable drive modes. It now has seven different options including Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.

The Strada also gets the active yaw control system which was popularized initially by the Lancer Evolution and was previously given to the facelifted 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross. This offers agile handling and ensures driving safety.

Further improving the truck’s ability to put down power is an active limited-slip differential. This system is controlled by the brakes and can distribute torque between the front and rear axles.

Other than those bits, the next-gen Strada is underpinned by a new ladder-frame chassis. It is said to be lighter and more rigid compared to the previous model. Again, this is claimed to contribute to the vehicle’s ride comfort, durability, and performance.

Price

For the Thai market, the all-new 2024 Mitsubishi Strada has a price ranging from 699,000 to 1,016,000 Baht before taxes and other fees. That’s roughly equivalent to a range of Php 1,111,000 to Php 1,614,000 at current exchange rates.
