Not much has been revealed about the mechanical bits of the upcoming next-gen Mitsubishi Strada. But ahead of its official launch, the brand recently released a statement revealing more information about the upcoming truck.
The upcoming Strada's new ladder-frame chassis
So far we have an inkling of what it looks like via teaser images. We also got to see the Strada prototypes that will be entering the 2023 Asia Cross Country Rally. As per the new information though, it was disclosed that the next-gen truck will be using a new body-on-frame chassis that’s paired with a new and improved turbodiesel engine.
According to Mitsubishi, the new chassis is given a new double wishbone and leaf spring suspension system to match. No other specifics were given about the chassis, but it is claimed to provide better handling and safety “for any weather or road condition.”
The engine meanwhile is touted to be cleaner and more efficient, but more powerful than ever before. The Japanese brand did not share anything about its displacement or output figures, but as a reference, the current Strada uses a 2.4-liter mill that’s capable of making up to 179 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque.
Mitsubishi didn't reveal the new engine's displacement and output figures
As far as rumors go, the engine might be the 4N16 which falls within the same engine series as the current Strada’s 4N15 mill. Another possibility is an improved version of the 4N15.
While details on its mechanicals are still scant, Mitsubishi Product Chief Specialist Yoshiki Masuda shared that the upcoming truck was developed with the help of feedback from various customers.
Masuda further added that it is designed to “meet the demands of a working car” and the brand has already “conducted repeated development tests” on the model to ensure that it can satisfy a broad range of user needs.
The next-gen Strada going for a test run
As a reminder, the next-gen Mitsubishi Strada will be debuting on July 26, 2023. So if you’re looking forward to this all-new truck, do mark the said date on your calendars.
