It is the brand’s entry into the tightly contested subcompact crossover segment.

After a yearlong series of teasers, Mitsubishi has finally unveiled its new subcompact crossover model called Xforce. The Mitsubishi Xforce debuted at the 30th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show, with launches planned for other ASEAN countries, including the Philippines.

While no specific launch dates were disclosed, let’s check out what we can expect from this ASEAN-developed crossover.

Exterior-wise, the Xforce arrives with a modern look with a rugged SUV stance thanks to the top-class ground clearance of 222 mm and 18-inch wheels. Like other Mitsubishi cars like the Xpander, the new model also features the brand’s Dynamic Shield front face flanked by the T-shaped front lighting.

The same type of styling is adopted for the taillights, completing a design continuity. However, the apparent illuminated hexagonal fog light housings, futuristic-looking wheel design, and zero door handle side profile look seen in the XFC Concept did not make the final cut.

Inside, the instrument panel where the eight-inch digital driver display is mounted has been designed based on the Horizontal Axis concept. The Xforce has drink holders that can accommodate 21 600 mL plastic bottles, a console box with a drink cooler, Type-A and Type-C ports, mélange fabric padding for the instrument panel, and 40:20:40 split rear seats.

New to the Mitsubishi portfolio is the Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium sound system developed in collaboration with Yamaha Corporation. Optimized specifically for the Xforce, the sound system consists of eight speakers, with front tweeters on the A-pillars, woofers in the front doors, and coaxial two-way speakers in the rear doors. It is connected to a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Powering the vehicle is a 1.5-liter inline-four engine good for 103 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. The engine sends power exclusively to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

This crossover is ready for the Philippines

Despite coming with a 2WD system, Mitsubishi claims the Xforce can achieve the road handling of an SUV through the four drive modes: Normal, Wet, Gravel, and Mud. The Wet drive mode is the latest addition to the pack, ideal for countries with a rainy season, like the Philippines.

“While ensuring the all-new Xforce meets the requirements for driving performance, ease of handling, a comfortable interior, wide-ranging user-friendliness, and everything else demanded of a compact SUV, we have put our heart and soul into the development to bring excitement to the everyday driving of our customers," said Mitsubishi Motors President and Chief Executive Officer Takao Kato.

"This compact SUV was developed to answer the needs of drivers in the ASEAN region and has gone through repeated tuning in the region's road environment. We hope the all-new Xforce will become a best-suited buddy for any adventure that drivers wish to embark on, giving them an extra force to go one step further and experience something new."
