2021 Chevrolet Tahoe: Expectations and what we know so far

Updated Jan 19, 2021 | Same topic: Car Sneak Peeks, Teasers, & Rumors

It is now in its fifth-generation globally.

The Chevrolet Tahoe has built quite a reputation not only in America but also around the world. It is probably one of the first vehicles we think of when we talk about full-size SUVs. In the U.S. market, the Tahoe is consistent in being one of the best-selling full-size SUV.

Despite the Tahoe’s success, American carmaker Chevrolet is not stopping enhancing the full-size SUV. Chevrolet has introduced the next-gen Tahoe as the 2021 model, making it the Tahoe’s fifth-generation model. The outgoing fourth generation had a five year run in the auto industry from 2015 to 2020.

Lucky for Filipino Chevrolet fans, the Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), the official distributor of Chevrolet vehicles in the country, said that it will soon introduce the all-new 2021 model of the Chevrolet Tahoe in the local market.

However, no further details have been released such as the engine options, release date, and official pricing. So for now, let’s have a look at the changes made on the fifth-generation 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and see what we can expect for the full-size SUV.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe | Review & Road Test

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe: Exterior

The highlight of the fifth-generation Tahoe is the larger dimensions as compared to the outgoing model. The outgoing model comes with a measurement that spans 5,179 mm in length, 2,045 mm in width, and 1,890 mm in height. Meanwhile, the 2021 model is 5,352 mm long, 2,060 mm wide, and 1,923 mm high.

In addition, the wheelbase of the 2021 Tahoe is 124.5 mm longer. With the larger dimensions, the new Chevrolet Tahoe will offer better stability and more interior space. The new and longer legroom is something passengers will appreciate in the new model.

The all-new 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe

Looking at the front, the new Chevrolet Tahoe comes with completely redesigned headlights that look sleeker as compared to the outgoing model’s large and aggressive headlight design. The new headlight design resembles that of the Mitsubishi Strada except for the grille area.

The sleeker headlights made room for the larger grille that is slightly redesigned to come with a broken horizontal line pattern. The new dimensions provided the front fascia with larger proportions which is great for styling full-size SUVs.

The subtle updates on the rear end look way sleeker than the outgoing model

As for the rear end of the new Tahoe, Chevrolet added a large long chrome trim that houses the Chevy badge. A new quad exhaust has also been integrated, replacing the outgoing model’s single exhaust tip. The new changes at the rear helped the Tahoe sport a less bland appeal.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe: Interior

Inside, there are huge updates made as well. We’ll start off with the redesigned dashboard highlighted by the relocated a/c vents on the center console. These a/c vents now sit below the new infotainment screen which we will talk more about in a minute.

The interior of the 2021 model looks more modern

The control knobs on the center console and the driver side are updated to look a bit more modern. Two USB C ports are installed for the 2021 model which is a great detail for the new Tahoe to feel more modern. However, the AUX-in port has been removed. The probable reason for this change is that newer smartphones don’t come with an AUX function anymore anyway.

The large column shifter that sits behind the steering wheel is now discontinued. For the 2021 model, the column shifter is replaced with touch buttons. This provides the 2021 Tahoe with a more modern look for the interior considering column shifters are usually found on classic cars.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe: Engine and performance

No major changes are made for the engine options of the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. It still comes with the two engine options from the outgoing model, namely the 5.3-liter Ecotec3 V8 engine and the 6.2-liter V8 Ecotec3 engine. The former engine makes 355 hp and 519 Nm of torque, while the latter engine makes 420 hp and 624 Nm of torque.

Chevrolet also added a new diesel variant that uses a smaller 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine good for 277 hp and 624 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the current PH-spec Chevrolet Tahoe is only offered with the 5.3-liter V8 engine.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe: On-board tech and safety features

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe is equipped with a larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen, replacing the outgoing model’s 8-inch screen. The new infotainment screen supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and now comes with a floating design.

The flip-down screen from the outgoing model has been discontinued for 2021. Instead, there are two 12.6-inch screens placed at the headrest of the driver and passenger seat. The two screens can work independently so passengers can watch two different films at the same time.

As for safety, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe is equipped with a lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automated emergency braking, and following distance indicator.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe: Final thoughts

The new updates on the 2021 Tahoe made the SUV sleeker. Chevrolet further solidified the reputable name of the Tahoe in the full-size SUV segment with the updates we see on the fifth-generation model.

We are excited to see this soon in local Chevy dealers

The biggest competition of the Chevrolet Tahoe in the country is probably the Ford Expedition. The Blue Oval’s full-size SUV also comes with sleek styling and large overall dimensions. It would be interesting to see how these two full-size SUVs go head-to-head in the local market this year.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe: Expected pricing

Surprisingly, most prices for the new Chevrolet Tahoe are almost the same as the outgoing model. However, the final pricing of the PH-spec 2021 Tahoe has yet to be determined. As said earlier, TCCCI hasn’t released the full details for the upcoming model so we will have to wait. However, if DTI’s safeguard tax will be approved, then we can expect a price hike for the 2021 Tahoe.
