Toyota introduced the Avanza in 2006. It’s a new entry-level multi-purpose vehicle offering from the Japanese carmaker. The PT Astra Daihatsu Motor of Indonesia developed the Avanza and marketed it as both a Daihatsu and Toyota in its home market. The conventional front engine-rear drive layout was retained similar to the Tamaraw. However, it's a bit different from its AUV ancestors in terms of size, weight, and body. The Avanza is lighter, smaller, and car-like unibody construction. The first-gen Avanza has a simple and contemporary style. The MPV we have today is the second-generation Avanza, which landed on our shore in early 2012. It received its initial refresh in 2015, wherein Toyota gave it a more upmarket appearance. It received its second facelift in 2019 when the Japanese carmaker decided to give it a sharper and sportier look. The second refresh features new wheels, new taillights, distinct split headlights, reshaped fascia, and a new grille. The interior of the Toyota Avanza also received a full makeover. It now features a more modern dashboard with added trim detailing and sharper lines. A touchscreen infotainment system was added on higher Avanza variants during the 2015 refresh. In the 2019 update, it got an updated infotainment system and new digital air-con controls. Toyota Motor Philippines offers the Avanza with two engine options. The first option is a 1.3L engine with an output of 95 hp and 121 Nm of torque. The other one is the 1.5L power plant that produces 103 hp and 136 Nm of torque. The new Dual VVT-I four-cylinder inline 16-valve DOHC engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.

Launch

In May 2019, Toyota Motor Philippines introduced the refreshed Toyota Avanza in the local car market. The updated MPV showed a massive revamp at the rear and got a total redesign in the front. The variant and the engine lineup is still the same. The 5-seater option is still available with the Avanza J.

For car enthusiasts searching for an extra shot of sportiness, Toyota Motor Philippines launched the Veloz variant way back 2017. It features a sports trim, black fabric interior, and unique fascia.

The latest version of the seven-seat MPV Avanza from Toyota is one of the country's recent chart-toppers. The refreshed sporty look, redesigned dashboard, new infotainment system, and practical safety features are just some of the reason why the Avanza tops the chart in the Philippines.

Exterior

The refreshed Avanza gets a three-tier front lighting trend, which is popularly used in most modern vehicles. The Veloz variant, on the other hand, has rear garnish and smoked chrome grille. Other variants get LED headlights except for the 5-seater base variant that comes with halogen headlamps.

The Toyota Avanza is offered in six different colors: Dark Blue SE, Gray Metallic, Black Metallic, Beige Metallic, Silver Mica Metallic, and White. The Veloz is available exclusively in Dark Red Mica Metallic.

Interior

Inside the Avanza, the cabin is designed towards being practical instead of class. It features a modern dashboard with sharp lines and new trim detailing.

The interior comes with abundant hard plastic and fabric for the seat coverings. Avanza is an excellent choice for a family car due to its configurable seats. Moreover, the last row of seats can be folded to increase the cargo space.

Several cubbyholes plus a handful of cupholders are also available inside the Avanza.  A manual A/C and roof-mounted A/C vents at the rear cabin handles the air conditioning inside this family car.

Technology & Safety feature

Since the Toyota Avanza is an entry-level MPV, it only offers basic to intermediate car tech features for both driver and passengers. Most of the Avanza’s lineup gets powered features like windows, side mirror adjustments, steering, and door locks.

There’s a WVGA display audio measuring 6.8 inches that is mounted at the center of the dashboard. It comes with smartphone mirroring and Auxiliary input, DVD, CD, MP3 Bluetooth, and USB capabilities. It also features a hands-free function that can pair up with up to two phones.

Each variant of the Toyota Avanza has standard dual SRS airbags, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, and ABS with EBD. ISOFIX child seat anchors are also featured in this family car.
