Together with Chery Auto Philippines’ re-introduction into the country was the launch of four new nameplates. Among the all-crossover lineup is the Tiggo 8, which is the brand’s flagship model. The launch was held in November 2019. The Tiggo 8 is marketed at P1,280,000 for the base variant and P1,340,000 for its top range variant.
The Tiggo 8 is currently the largest model in Chery PH's lineup
The Tiggo 8 comes with Chery’s signature tiger-crouching grille in a gloss black finish. Complementing the large grill are narrow LED headlights, daytime running lights, and LED fog lamps. It features clean angles, contours, and a roof rail that give the vehicle a more pronounced body and sleeker look. On the rear are LED lamps that are connected by a light strip. The Tiggo 8 rides on 18-inch alloys that complete the crossover’s more premium aesthetic.
The whole cabin and dashboard are decked in black with silver accents. On the center of the dashboard is a touchscreen system for smartphone connectivity. It also features a 7-inch LCD instrument cluster that is able to interact with the touchscreen. All seats are upholstered in black leather, with the driver’s seat featuring 6-way electrical adjustability. The front seats come with two-stage heating functions and an ergonomic H-type seat.
Chery equipped the Tiggo 8 with a huge trunk that can accommodate at least 890 liters of luggage. The middle row can be folded down to accommodate additional cargo if needed. On the roof of the top-spec Luxury eX variant is a panoramic sunroof with an anti-pinch function.
Technology & Safety Features
The Chery Tiggo 8 is sufficiently equipped with new technological features that add to the vehicle’s value. Its entire dashboard is fully-digital with a multimedia-capable instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch UHD touch screen infotainment system, and an 8-inch LCD A/C touch screen.
Both variants come with a Chery Smartwatch that is connected to the crossover’s system. It enables the owner to use it for keyless start, control the windows, turn on the air-conditioning, and open the trunk. The vehicle’s unique safety feature is the Autohold + EPB which is an advanced electronic control technology that replaces the traditional hand brake.
Platform & Chassis
The Tiggo 8 comes with a unibody chassis with 200 mm of ground clearance. It rides on a T1X platform that features a larger front and rear headroom and ground clearance. Front suspension comes in the form of independent McPherson strut in front and multi-link suspensions at the rear. The 7-seater vehicle’s stopping power comes from disc brakes all around the vehicle.
Engine & Drivetrain
The front-wheel-drive Tiggo 8 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine that produces 145 hp and 210 Nm of torque. The engine is attached to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), similar to the Tiggo 7’s setup. This type of transmission makes switching between the Sport and the Eco drive modes more convenient, produce more direct power, and provide higher efficiency for a more comfortable drive.
