While being one of the newest models in Mazda’s lineup, the CX-8 midsize crossover SUV is one significant addition to their line-up. It sits just below the CX-9 in size and price but otherwise, it still provides a great amount of interior room. In Japan, the CX-8 is Mazda’s flagship SUV as the larger CX-9 is not sold there.

The CX-8 is smaller than the CX-9 but it definitely has the same amount of stylishness

On the outside, the CX-8 looks very similar to the 2nd-generation CX-9 and yes, it does use several exterior parts. With regards to size, the CX-8 is definitely smaller than its larger brother. Despite its heft, the CX-8 was designed under the Kodo design language, as such, the vehicle looks lithe and fluidic especially from the side.

Inside, is where the Mazda CX-8 2020 shines. It offers a great amount of space for seven passengers with cargo room to spare. With the top of the line AWD variant, it can seat one less due to having a pair of captain seats for its second-row thus offering up more elbow room. The headroom is no problem even for the tallest of passengers.

As for interior amenities, the CX-8 offers the best of what Mazda can offer. The head unit is a very sharp, floating type 8-inch screen that can be controlled via the commander toggle. And get this, the display can be turned off. When it comes to CX-8’s upholstery, like the CX-9, it can be described as a literal ottoman on wheels.

Almost every panel is clad padded and then covered with supple leather. And lastly, the driver’s seat is a 10-way power-adjustable seat whilst the front passenger seat is a 6-way. And lastly, the top of the line variant comes with a 10-speaker BOSE sound system. A must-have for audiophiles.

For the driver, the CX-8 is definitely a driver’s car. It comes with Mazda’s brilliant torque vectoring technology, and the steering is as crisp and responsive as the Mazda MX-5. The sport shifting is also very competent as is with every modern Mazda model available today.

Apart from having a brilliant set of passive safety equipment, the Mazda CX-8 also comes with the i-Activesense which is the brand’s proprietary set of very advanced active safety technologies.

III. Why would you want to buy a 2020 Mazda CX-8?

If you think that any other crossover is too small but at the same time the CX-9 is too large, then the CX-8 is the ideal vehicle for you. It’s definitely less cumbersome than an SUV and yet it has the interior room to provide seats for six or seven people.

The CX-8 also offers a lot of features notable of all is its array of active safety features that’ll temper even the most ham-handed of drivers. The interior itself is very finely crafted and is worth every peso of its price tag.
