The CX-9 was first introduced globally at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2015. After nine years, the second-generation crossover was released to replace the V6 engine with its current 2.5L turbocharged gasoline engine. In the Philippines, the Mazda CX-9 was officially launched at the 2017 Manila International Auto Show. It initially came out in one variant which is the Signature AWD, while the Sport variant was marketed in 2018.
The crossover sports Mazda’s signature Kodo design philosophy, making it considerably one of the most aesthetically pleasing SUV’s in today’s automotive market. Its styling It features a longer hood with a more prominent grille and sleeker headlamps.
Furnished in the CX-9 Signature AWD variant are Adaptive LED Headlamps, LED Running Lamp, LED Front Fog Lamps, LED Rear Combination Lamp, and an Electric Glass Sunroof. It rides on 20" Alloy Wheels to complete its look. The base variant, on the other hand, rides on 18"x 8.0J Aluminum Alloy wheels and comes with generally the same specifications except for its bulb running lamps.
The Mazda CX-9’s interiors are equally refined as other Mazda premium vehicles, with high-grade finishes and excellent details. Both variants come with seats upholstered in black or Auburn Nappa leather which also extends to the dashboard and door panels. The AWD Signature’s cabin is even more elevated with Rosewood accents that match the seats. On the dashboard are Front Windshield Projected Active Driving Display HUD and a 7" LCD Display Meter set.
Meanwhile, seats have 60:40 split and recline on the second row and 50:50 split fold-down on the third row for added convenience and cargo space.
Technology & Safety
Both variants of the CX-9 are equipped with the latest evolution of the Mazda Connect through an 8" Touchscreen LCD Monitor. It is capable of connectivity through two USB ports, Bluetooth, and Smartphone Mirroring. Audio of the AWD variant comes out of a 12-speaker Bose sound system with a digital amplifier.
The Mazda CX-9 comes with extensive safety features that include ABS (Anti Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and BA (Brake Assist), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Smart Keyless Entry System, Push Start and Stop button, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, and a 360° View Reverse Camera.
Advance active safety features included in the Signature AWD variant are Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Monitoring systems.
Platform & Chassis
The 5-door SUV is based on the SkyActiv platform. Suspension comes in the form of McPherson Strut in front and Multi-Link suspension at the rear. Stopping power comes from Front Ventilated Discs and Rear Solid Discs through an Electric Parking Brake.
Engine & Drivetrain
Powering the CX-9 is a 2.5L SkyActiv-G PY-VPS Turbo Inline-4 Gasoline engine that produces 227 hp, 420 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-Speed SkyActiv-Drive Automatic Transmission. Power is sent to all wheels for the Signature variant, and to the front wheels for the Turbo Sport variant.
