The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, or G-Wagon, is an off-road capable, luxury midsize SUV. In the Philippine market, the G-Wagon has two variants. For power, the G-Class gets two different engine options. For the AMG-Line variant, the G-Wagon uses a twin-turbo 4.0-liter gasoline V8 engine. At maximum, this V8 can produce up to 420 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque. The 350 D variant, in turn, uses a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbodiesel capable of producing up to 284 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque.
Both G-Wagon variants use a nine-speed automatic gearbox, and both come standard with all-wheel-drive.
Size-wise, the G-Wagon comes with a length of 4,725mm, a width of 1,931mm, and a height of 1,969mm. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,890mm and a ground clearance of 241mm.
Locally, the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon competes against the likes of the Lexus LX, Land Rover Defender, and the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Auto Nation Group, the authorized distributor of Mercedes-Benz in the Philippines officially launched the latest addition to the G-Class, which is the G 350d in July 2020. The model can be availed with a Php 10,890,000 price tag. It is one of the flagships of the Mercedes-Benz SUV lineup in the country.
The new generation G-Class still generally follows the aesthetic of its original model with its confident and athletic stance. It comes with an angular profile and prominent features that match its off-roading purpose. The robust front fascia is equipped with a protective strip and full LED headlamps for added safety in all-terrain drives. At the rear is the signature exposed spare wheel on the tailgate and LED taillights to match. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class rides on 19-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels.
While the outside may seem akin to the classic G-Class, the cabin is a different story. It is a complete transformation from its previous generations with more space and premium finishes. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is decked in a unique interior concept but still retains the iconic comfort and luxurious appeal that the brand is known for. Seats are wrapped in authentically handcrafted Nappa leather upholstery with diamond quilting. Classic wooden accents are spread in the cabin’s first row through the dashboard, the center console, and the grab handle.
On the command center are the buttons of the three differential locks for making headway in off-road terrain. The G-Class Philippines is also furnished with the brand’s iconic 64-color ambient lighting in the cabin.
The G-Class is equipped with the Mercedes-Benz COMAND infotainment system that can be accessed through a 12.3-inch high-definition screen. It comes navigation-ready and enables connectivity through Bluetooth, much like the entertainment system of the E-Class.
In terms of safety, the G-Class comes with a plethora of features starting with a smart entry system with a push-button start. It is also equipped with an advanced version of the driver-assist system, improved stability control, and an automatic emergency braking system which is called the Active Brake Assist paired with adaptive brake lights. There are three locks at the center, rear, and front-axle differential which ensures that the drive torque is concentrated in the right place. This enables the G-Class to provide superior performance on and off-road.
The suspension comes in the form of a double-wishbone in front and a rigid rear axle. Its independent wheel suspension with adaptive damping increases the ride quality, especially in rough road conditions. This makes the Mercedes-Benz G-Class 350d easier to control. It also takes driving precision a notch further.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class G 300d is powered by a 2.9-liter six-cylinder diesel engine that produces up to 286 hp and 600 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission that sends power to its permanent all-wheel-drive system. The AWD system splits the power automatically, transmitting 60 percent to the rear and 40 percent to the front wheels.
Locally, the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon Philippines is available in Selenite Grey, Brillant Blue, Cavansite Blue, Emerald Green, Iridium Silver, Magnetite Black, Mojave Silver, Obsidian Black, Polar White, and Rubellite Red.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon remains to be one of the toughest luxury SUVs in the market. It retains its world-renewed off-road capability, whilst providing as many interior amenities as its competitors. Unlike its key rivals though, it retains a box-like exterior design which harkens back to its military roots. So, instead of having a modern SUV design, it still carries a menacing but utilitarian look.
Regarding powertrains, the diesel-powered G-Wagon AMG-Line currently sits in between the Land Rover Defender and the Toyota Land Cruiser.
