Mazda 2 is the smallest vehicle in the brand’s line-up. The subcompact sedan features Mazda’s newest version of the Kodo design language. Its rounded edges and lines around the body follow suit with the brand’s larger models. All elements of the Mazda 2 flow smoothly from the grille to the rear, giving it a dynamic and athletic look.

The 5-seater is equipped with Mazda’s latest technology that includes a touchscreen infotainment system, active driving display, automatic climate control, and the G-Vectoring Control Plus which enhances the car’s handling by distributing power among its wheels depending on steering. Under the hood of the Mazda 2 is a 1.5L SKYACTIV-G 16-valve gasoline engine mated to a SKYACTIV-Drive 6-Speed Automatic with Sport Mode.

Only one variant of the nameplate is offered in the Philippines, which is the Mazda 2 1.5 SkyActiv-G Elite AT. It is available in the following colors: Snowflake White Pearl, Soul Red Crystal, Jet Black, Titanium Flash, and Eternal Blue.

Launch

Mazda 2 was first introduced globally in 1996. It was marketed in the Philippines together with the brand’s arrival in 2012. The nameplate is currently on its fourth generation, which comes with a series of upgrades. In December 2019, the facelifted Mazda 2 Sedan was officially launched to the local automotive market.

Exterior

The Mazda 2 follows the brand’s revamped Kodo design language, similar to other vehicles in Mazda’s lineup. Up front is a prominent grille flanked by glaring LED with Auto Levelling Headlamps and LED Running Lamps. Smooth lines flow around the body and the swooping roofline, giving the sedan a seamless look. The rear is decked with narrow taillights that accentuate the vehicle’s shape. The subcompact sedan rides on 16-inch gray metallic alloy wheels.

Interior

The spacious cabin features a neutral palette decked in black with brown accents. All seats are wrapped in fabric. The driver’s seat is equipped with 6-way manual adjustability while the front passenger’s seat comes with 4-way manual adjustability. Touches of leather can be seen through the shift knob and the steering wheel that slightly elevates the interior design. On the dashboard is a hands-free system for infotainment and smartphone mirroring.

Technology & Safety Features

The Mazda 2 comes with an array of technological upgrades and safety features. For starters, it is furnished with a 7-inch MZD Connect infotainment system that is capable of connectivity through Bluetooth and USB. It also has smartphone mirroring capabilities that make it easier for the driver to use the system for navigation or taking calls. Audio comes out of a 6-Speaker system.
 
In terms of safety, Mazda equipped with rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, Anti-Locking Braking (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) as standard. For added convenience and security, the Mazda 2 comes with a smart keyless entry system matched with a push start button.

Platform & Chassis

The 4-door sedan rides on a Mazda DJ Platform that comes with a front engine, front wheel drive layout. Front suspension remains at McPherson Strut with a torsion beam axle rear suspension. The subcompact sedan’s stopping power comes from ventilated discs in front and solid discs at the rear through a manual handbrake.

Engine & Drivetrain

Under the hood of the Mazda 2 is a SKYACTIV-G In-line 4-Cylinder DOHC with 16 Valves. The engine is equipped with G-Vectoring Control Plus that optimizes the vehicle’s power among all four wheels, resulting to better car handling and more comfortable driving. It can produce 110 hp and 141 Hm of torque. The engine is mated to a SKYACTIV-Drive 6-Speed Automatic with Sport Mode that sends power primarily to the front wheels.
