Under the hood of the new 2023 Nissan Patrol is a 5.6-Liter gasoline V8 engine capable of making up to 402 horsepower and 560Nm of torque. It then uses a seven-speed automatic gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels via a 4x4 drivetrain.

When it comes to size, the 2023 Patrol has a length of 5,270mm, a width of 1,995mm, and a height of 1,995mm. Its wheelbase length measures 3,075mm, and it has a ground clearance of 275mm.

In the local market, the Nissan Patrol 2023 competes against the Toyota Land Cruiser, Ford Expedition, Jeep Wrangler, and the Chevrolet Suburban.

Launch

The Nissan Patrol is a popular four-wheel drive vehicle enjoyed worldwide. Since 1951, it has been sold either as a short-wheelbase, three-door automobile, or a long-wheelbase, five-door chassis vehicle.

In the Philippines, it was known as the Datsun Patrol in the 1980s, the Nissan Patrol Safari in the 1990s, and the Nissan Patrol Super Safari in 2010s. In 2015, a reasonably priced, all-new Nissan Patrol Royale was relaunched to cater to the need for a reliable and versatile vehicle.

Later in 2021, the Nissan Philippines brought in the new Nissan Patrol for the model year 2022. Initially though, this model was introduced in Dubai back in 2019.

Exterior

On the outside, the 2023 Nissan Patrol retains the awesome and familiar road presence of the outgoing model. It does however, have some modern touches like its LED headlamp with auto-leveling and headlamp washers. It also gets LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, LED rear foglamps, power adjustable and power folding side mirrors, and a rear roof spoiler.

Moreover, this latest version of the Patrol also comes standard with a sunroof, privacy glass for the rear windows, among others.

It then rides on a set 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 275/60 all-season tires.

Interior

Inside, the 2023 Nissan Patrol can seat up to eight occupants. The interior then features leather seats and leather clad soft touch surfaces. It also gets several wood-trim pieces on its steering-wheel, center console, and dashboard.

The said occupants are then kept comfortable with a triple-zone automatic climate control system with vents for the second and third row. The second row also has an elbow rest, and the seats themselves have a 60:40 split folding function.

Also present inside the 2023 Patrol is a cooler box positioned in-between the front seats, ambient lighting, a generous amount of bottle and cup holders, a 12-volt charging port, a 10-way power adjustable driver's seat, a 4-way power adjustable front passenger seat, a tilt and telescopic steering column, a push-to-start button, and many other features.

Access to the trunk is also made easier with a power tailgate controlled by the driver or by a remote switch.

Technology & Safety Features

To entertain its occupants, the 2023 Nissan Patrol is equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen headunit. This headunit is then paired with 13 Bose Premium speakers, and it provides connectivity to smartphones through Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB, and Aux jack. It is also iPod compatible. The model also comes standard with a wireless phone charging pad.

For the driver, the Patrol also provides the latest version of the Nissan Intelligent Mobility. This includes technologies like a seven-inch driver assist display, high beam assist, an intelligent around-view monitor, adaptive cruise control, Intelligent Blind Sport Intervention, blind-spot detection, rear-cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, Intelligent Emergency Braking, forward collision warning, hill-start asist, and hill descent control.

Standard safety equipment on the 2023 Nissan Patrol then includes anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, 6 airbags, stability control, traction control, numerous parking sensors, an engine immobilizer and a car alarm, as well as speed-sensing door locks.

Platform & Chassis

The new Nissan Patrol Royale is built with a heavy-duty frame core that is manufactured with enhanced structural rigidity. It uses double-wisbone suspensions for the front and rear. Braking is handled by front and rear disc brakes, and it also comes with an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function.

Engine & Drivetrain

The Nissan Patrol runs using a 5.6-liter, eight-cylinder, 32-valve gasoline engine guaranteed to produce 402 horsepower and 560Nm of torque. It is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission with manual mode sending power to all four wheels.

Nissan Patrol 2024 Owner Reviews

Nissan Patrol 2024 Comparison with similar cars

In terms of raw power, the 2023 Nissan Patrol is on a competitive edge against its Japanese-branded rivals, and is on-par against its American-branded rivals. Then again, do remember that Filipinos tend to prefer diesel fuel especially when it comes to large vehicles like SUVs. As mentioned though, the Patrol's output is more than enough for its size. Also, there's the point that it is one of the few SUVs left in the market with a V8. So if you're a stickler for those engines, then you'll like this model.

For interior equipment, the new Patrol comes with a whole host of gadgets that provides it with the right stuff to make a mark on the segment. It looks on-par with the other fullsize SUVs too when it comes to "premiumness".
