The model is the first in the country to feature the new Nissan logo.

Even with hatchbacks, crossovers, MPVs, and midsize SUVs in the news lately, the full-size SUV category isn’t about to take a backseat. Nissan Philippines is ending its salvo for this year with its biggest offering (figuratively and literally), the Patrol full-size SUV.

The new Patrol celebrates 70 years of the nameplate's existence

The nameplate traces its roots to 1951 as a more utilitarian machine, and the latest iteration makes its Philippine debut to commemorate 70 years of existence. It also leads the carmaker’s Philippine model range by carrying the new Nissan corporate badge.

“Built on 70 years of SUV heritage, the Nissan Patrol continues its legacy here in the Philippines. It is now smarter than ever, and leads its class in innovation, luxury, and performance,” said Nissan Philippines President and Managing Director Atsushi Najima. “We are offering the latest in the Patrol legacy here in the Philippines to leaders who recognize its capability, versatility, stylishness, comforts, and innovations.”

Exterior

The new Patrol mostly retains its dimensions from the outgoing version, standing 1,995mm wide and 1,955mm high on a 3,075mm wheelbase. Even the ground clearance has been raised if by hair, from 273mm on the previous model to 275mm.

A revised front end now displays the new Nissan corporate logo

Only the length has differed slightly, now measuring 5,270mm against the old Patrol’s 5,165mm, likely due to the second facelift. The 2022 Patrol now sports updated styling, with a fascia designed around a more prominent V-motion grille below the revised hood. Flanking the intake is a pair of revamped auto-leveling LED headlamps with C-shaped LED signature daytime running lights.

The massive yet clean profile remains, accompanied by redesigned 20-inch alloy wheels. A redesigned tailgate is now flanked by sleeker LED taillamps, complemented by a new rear bumper that now includes a tow hitch as standard.

Interior

Accompanying the exterior changes are improvements in the cabin, with leather seating for up to seven occupants. The power-adjustable front seats with lumbar support and memory function now add climate control and active head restraint features. Second- and third-row seats can fold 60:40 to flexibly accommodate different requirements in carrying both passengers and cargo.

Inside, the center stack has been revised for simplicity and ease of use

Leather and black wood veneer trim combine to give the interior a premium atmosphere, along with the ambient lighting on the front door trim, armrest, and footwell. The leather-padded armrest on the center console conceals a cool box where beverages can be stored on long drives. Triple-zone automatic climate control allow individual temperature adjustments between the front and rear occupants.

Tech & Safety

Along with a leather skin and multi-function controls, the steering wheel also features power-adjustable telescopic adjustment and memory functions. A high contrast instrument panel houses the 7-inch Advanced Drive Assist Display. The 12.3-inch touchscreen head unit is more than legible for communications, infotainment, and navigation, patched to a 13-speaker Bose premium sound system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless smartphone charging are standard.

The 2022 Nissan Patrol still runs on a 5.6-liter V8 direct-injection gasoline engine

The 2022 Patrol offers an expanded range of Nissan Intelligent Mobility features, with Hill-Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, and Intelligent Around View Monitor still available by default. These are now accompanied by additional driver-assist technologies such as Intelligent Cruise Control, Intelligent Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention.

Engine & Drivetrain

Power on the new Nissan Patrol comes from a V8 DOHC gasoline engine displacing 5.6 liters, capable of 400 hp and 560 Nm of torque. The 7-speed automatic transmission with manual mode channels the output to the drive wheels, while the four-wheel drivetrain comes with an electronic locking rear differential and variable drive modes to tackle a variety of terrain.

Hydraulic Body Motion Control works with the double wishbone suspension to ensure stability whether the Patrol is cruising on highways or crawling over rough roads. Ventilated front and rear disc brakes deliver serious stopping power.

The 2022 Nissan Patrol comes in a single trim, priced at Php 4.548 million. Three exterior colors (Brilliant Silver, Black Obsidian, and Pearl White) will be available, along with two color choices for the interior. For the first time in its segment, the SUV will be offered with a 5-year warranty, and is slated to be available in all Nissan dealerships nationwide beginning February 2022.
