1. About Maxus Philippines
History
Maxus International is part of the Shanghai Automobile and Industrial Corporation (SAIC), which is the most prominent automotive manufacturer in China. Originally rooting from British origins in the 1890s, it was formerly known as the LDV brand. One of the models it produced was the LDV Maxus from which the company’s name was derived.
The LDV brand was then acquired by SAIC and renamed Maxus International in 2010. In 2015 SAIC made headlines as they sold nearly 6 million vehicles, crafting successful joint ventures with General Motors and Volkswagen. SAIC has been a Fortune Global 500 company since 2018. The corporation is currently Forbes magazine’s 10th most powerful automotive company in the world. It has been investing in developing new technologies revolving around all-electric and internet-connected vehicles.
Development
In line with the company’s goal to further broaden the brand’s vehicle portfolio and global distribution, Maxus made its way to Philippine shores. The Ayala Corporation became the brand’s official distributor through its subsidiary, AC Industrials. Maxus Philippines was launched in 2019 led by the company’s CEO Arthur Tan, President Felipe Estrella, and General Manager Reginald See, thus making it the 6th internationally acclaimed automotive brand partner under AC Industrials. Joining Maxus Philippines are Honda, Isuzu, Volkswagen, Kia, and KTM.
