Land Rover is expanding the range of its renowned off-roader with the introduction of the new Defender 130.
Land Rover Defender 130
The 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 strengthens the nameplate’s capabilities by offering an eight-seat configuration. Even extended family can now join road adventures, making trips more fun and memorable. It joins the smaller Defender 90 and the mid-sized Defender 110 in the lineup.
“New Defender 130 brings a new dimension of capability to our most durable and rugged family of vehicles. Its spacious interior welcomes and transports up to eight people in supreme comfort, enabling unparalleled sophisticated adventuring opportunities for family,” said Land Rover Vehicle Program Executive Director Nick Collins.
Exterior
The 8-seater Land Rover Defender 130 has been extended by 340 mm at the rear to allow the third-row seats to be fitted. With this, the new addition to the range provides increased interior and cargo space. It can offer 1,232 liters of cargo space with the third row down, and up to 2,291 liters when the second row is folded as well.
It can now bring more passengers on adventures
Numbers-wise, the British off-roader measures 5,358mm in length, 2,008mm in width, and 1,970mm in height. It comes with a wheelbase and ground clearance rated at 3,022mm and 290mm, respectively. Moreover, the maximum wading depth is 900mm which should help the vehicle get through challenging roads.
Interior
Inside, the third row is equipped with various features to keep passengers feel comfortable on the go. Among these are heated seats, padded armrests, USB-C charging ports, a second sunroof, and more storage. And as an option, the vehicle can come with a four-zone climate control system for improved air conditioning capacity.
8-seater configuration
The British automaker has also debuted its Cabin Air Purification Plus. It comes standard in all variants, safeguarding passengers against viruses, allergens, and other airborne irritants. Moreover, CO2 Management and PM2.5 Cabin Air Filtration help enhance the cabin environment to ensure optimum air quality on every trip.
Tech & Safety
Sitting on the dashboard is an 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen that gets a crisp and intuitive display. The said system is integrated with ‘what3words,’ a British tech company that offers a smart and global location platform. Using just three words, passengers can find the ideal spots to explore, as well as find parking spaces.
The Defender 130 offers more space thanks to its extended body
ISOFIX child seat attachments are found on up to five of the passenger seats. To be more specific, these are on the outboard seats of the second and third rows, as well as on the front passenger seat. With these safety bits, children can join family road trips safely.
Engine & Powertrain
The 8-seater off-roader is available with a wide array of engine options, namely the P300 and P400 mild-hybrid Ingenium six-cylinder gasoline engines, and D250 and D300 Ingenium six-cylinder diesel power units. Land Rover said that its gas-powered Defender offers a refined drive, while its diesel powertrains provide enhanced torque delivery.
The new and exclusive Sedona Red option
As standard, any of the engines sends power to all four wheels with the Land Rover’s Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive (iAWD) system via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. The vehicle is also equipped with electronic air suspension with Adaptive Dynamics and the brand’s Terrain Response for improved off-road capabilities.
