Porsche set the strongest delivery result in the company’s history with 301,915 units sold in 2021, translating to an 11-percent sales improvement as compared to 2020. The top contributors to the sales performance are the brand’s SUVs, namely the Macan and Cayenne.
Porsche Macan
Introduced in 2014, the Porsche Macan managed to be the German car brand’s best-selling unit in 2021 with 88,362 units sold. Meanwhile, the more familiar SUV/crossover in the lineup, the Porsche Cayenne, ranked second in the sales race last year with 83,071 units sold.
“Despite the challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage and the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been working to enable more customers than ever before to fulfill their dream of owning a Porsche,” said Porsche AG member of the Executive Board responsible for Sales and Marketing Detlev von Platen.

Perhaps the reason as to why the two said Porsche models topped the list is the current market trend that favors SUVs/crossovers. This is one of the motivations car manufacturers had when they decided to roll out their first-ever SUVs after so long including the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX.
The all-electric Porsche Taycan delivered 41,296 for the brand in 2021, which doubled as compared to the previous year. This signifies the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) on a global scale. Other sales numbers of Porsche models include the 911 with 38,464 units, Panamera with 30,220 units, and 718 with 20,502 units.

In the Asia Pacific region, Porsche reports that it achieved a record-breaking 51 percent sales improvement. China is the best-selling market in the region with 95,671 units sold, an eight percent sales increase over its performance in 2020.
“The overall result is very promising and shows the strategy to further electrify our fleet is working and is in line with demand and the preferences of our customers. At the same time, unit sales are not the decisive factor for us. Rather, we want to stand for exclusive and unique customer experiences and will continue to expand these worldwide,” added Platen.
