The Coolray is on a roll and shows no signs of slowing down.

The Geely Coolray has been making strides in terms of establishing itself in the Philippine subcompact crossover segment. Since its launch in the local market in September 2019, the Coolray has been performing well in terms of unit sales. One could even argue that it has disrupted the subcompact crossover game in the Philippines.

The Geely Coolray is having a good run in the Philippine market

To prove that point, the Geely Coolray is the top-selling subcompact crossover in the country in October 2020 with 205 units sold. Aside from its sales performance in October 2020, the Coolray has posted notable sales throughout this year. In June 2020, it has posted 154 units sold, which is more than the combined sales of four car companies combines. Then, a month after, the Coolray smashed its own sales numbers as it posted 263 unit sales in July 2020.

Indeed, it’s evident that the Geely Coolray is making a statement of its own in the Philippine automotive market. However, the said subcompact crossover has also been stealing the hearts of car buyers in another market in the ASEAN region. Dubbed as Proton X50, a rebadged Geely Coolray, is selling like hotcakes in the Malaysian market.

Proton reported a total unit sales of 11,411 in November 2020. From the said total sales, the X50 posted 1,756 units placing itself as the fourth top-selling vehicle in Proton’s model lineup. But the interesting bit here is that the X50 was just recently launched in Malaysia on October 27, 2020.

During the remaining days of October, Proton said that the X50 still managed to post 447 unit sales. As such, the overall sales of the X50 from October to November 2020 tallies at 2,203 units sold.

Of note, the Proton X50 got a five-star safety rating from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). The X50’s advanced driver assistance system is one of the factors why it bagged a five-star ASEAN NCAP rating.

It includes features such as lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning, which are not available in the Philippine spec Geely Coolray.

Overall, the sales figures show that the Geely Coolray is doing good in the Philippine market as well as in Malaysia. However, aside from the positive sales performance of the said subcompact crossover, the Coolray helped a lot in rubbing out the stigma towards Chinese cars.
