1. Nissan Almera 2018 Philippines: Introduction

If you’re in the market for a daily car, subcompact sedans are now on trending. Not only being fuel efficient, they’re also easy to maneuver thanks to a moderate size which still gives enough space on the inside.

Nissan PH forays into this segment with its Almera whose name may sound new for some Pinoys. However, it’s certain that you know the Sunny from the ‘90s. Yes, the Nissan Almera is exactly the Sunny’s successor. In this review, let’s find out together the way the Nissan Almera 2018 Philippines performs as a favorite daily car in local market.

2. Nissan Almera 2018 Review: Exterior

The Almera 2018 façade is quite akin to that of its big brother – the Nissan Sylphy sedan. It’s dominated by the same hourglass grille and sweptback boomerang headlamps. Still, both are curvier and sharper in the new Almera. Also fitting the overall exterior styling are chrome accents at the grille, fog lamps and door handles.

The exterior of this sedan is not as lustrous as other subcompact sedans in the market today

Side facet has a tall profile and is beautified by character lines. The rear end, in the meantime, comes adorned with a small lip spoiler as a sporty touch.

In large, the Nissan Almera 2018 exterior is not as lustrous as other subcompact sedans in the market today like the Mazda 2, Honda City and Toyota Vios, but it’s definitely not a monotonous model.

You may not believe that the Almera is amidst the biggest in its segment. Even though its length and width are at the median, it measures a towering height of 1,505 mm and a long wheel base of 2,600 mm. As stated above, this size advantage not only makes the sedan easy to drive, but also boosts more interior space.

3. Nissan Almera 2018 Philippines: Interior

As sober as its outer, the Nissan Almera 2018 interior comes fitted with a light interior theme: beige and grey. This cabin is decidedly created for those who yearn for a well-lit room yet you have to keep a weather eye on dirt and stains.

The dash is clutter-free but straightforward. On the other hand, the black central panel with circular button cluster for automatic climate control seems to be a bit off. Not only that, plastic parts are also not laudable to our eyes but anyway, leather seats are fine.

In terms of space, leg-, head- and elbowroom are abundant

The controls are all easily reachable except for the power-folding side mirrors’ electronic adjuster that forces the driver to lean forward to adjust the mirrors. Thankfully, the driver’s seat with height adjuster is helpful for you to find a suitable driving position. A tilt steering wheel is another driver-oriented feature in this model.

The sedan also provides enough room for your stuff

Entertainment source is a simple dash-integrated 2-DIN head unit which can readily connect with your iPods and iPhone via USB port. If you’re Android users, auxiliary port is required. Disappointingly, no Bluetooth connectivity.

In terms of space, the Nissan Almera 2018 model won’t let you down. Leg-, head- and elbowroom are abundant. Meanwhile, passengers at the rear are gratified with two air vents with an independent control.

4. Nissan Almera 2018 Review: Engine & Performance

The top-of-the-range 2018 Almera VL packs a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox. On paper, this engine is capable of mustering 134 Nm of torque and 99 horsepower. In reality however, it tells a different story.

Its performance is praiseworthy whether you like a fast-paced trip or a relaxing ride. The 1.5-liter engine is responsive and the rev is compatible with every input on the accelerator pedal. Even with four people on-board, the Almera can also pull the vehicle with ease. Though Hill Start Assist is not available, uphill climbs are not really its problem.

Being a city car, so overcoming tight city street is just a child’s play with the Almera owing to a lightweight steering wheel. That said, for a more stable ride on highways, this wheel should have been heavier.

Additionally, Nissan has equipped its sedan with a soft suspension system which is really good at “digesting” road imperfections. So for the most part, ride comfort is no doubt the best quality of the Nissan Almera 2018 model.

In respect of fuel economy, the car sips fuel at around 7.1 km/l at an average speed of 15kmph while at a higher speed of 60kmph, it does a commendable 15.2 km/l. Out on the highway, it can easily average 21.3 km/l of fuel at 90kmph.

Frankly speaking, the Nissan Almera 2018 Philippines is not a superior vehicle in the matter of exterior and interior. However, for those who are just looking for a city car for the money to drive from three to four hours a day in multiple road situations, we dare say the Almeria is a great companion that holds all the essentials for a comfy and enjoyable trip.
