2020 Suzuki Jimny Interior: A Closer Look [Philkotse Guide]

Updated Nov 11, 2021

The Jimny still keeps most of its interior and exterior designs throughout the years.

The Suzuki Jimny is a four-wheel-drive off-road mini SUV first introduced in 1970. As its description suggests, the Jimny is a small vehicle which means we can’t really expect a lot in terms of interior space.

Suzuki only offers a 2-door version of this mini-SUV since its commencement.

Variants that are offered by Suzuki locally are the GL MT, GL AT, and GLX AT – all designed to meet its loyal customers throughout the years.

The Jimny pretty much kept all of its design including the iconic round headlamps and boxy type body. To complement its timeless exterior design, the interior still gives off an old school vibe. Maybe that is the reason why the Suzuki Jimny is still a relevant vehicle in today’s time.

Despite having a Php 1.0 million price point, the interior doesn't seem to look cheap at all

For that, let’s take a deep dive into the features inside the Suzuki Jimny and discover if the mini-SUV should keep or update its interior aesthetics.

Suzuki Jimny Interior: Dimensions and Spaces

We’ll start off by mentioning the Jimny’s overall dimension figures. The Suzuki Jimny has a measurement that spans 3,650 mm in length (front bumper to spare tire cover), 1,645 mm in width, and 1,725 mm in height.

In comparison, the Jimny is just slightly larger than its brand sibling, the lifted hatchback S-Presso.

Expect that size will always be the topic for the mini-SUV's first-time passengers

With that being said, the mini-SUV can’t really offer great interior space. It offers a 210mm ground clearance which makes gives you a decent amount of visibility while driving. Plus, it is marketed to be a mini off-roader so interior space is probably the last you would want to expect from the Jimny.

At the back, it really has a small cargo space that has a measurement of 85L. Bags are probably the only thing it can occupy. If the back seats are folded, then the cargo will now have a 377-liter space.

The GLX variant comes with a luggage box located beneath the flooring of its cargo space. We can conclude that the Jimny is not the best option in terms of interior space. But maybe the Jimny is marketed to be kept that way.

Suzuki Jimny Interior: Safety and Technology

The meter cluster of the Jimny features a distinctive design – looks like a classic flight instrument due to its hairline finished meter cluster garnish. It illuminates orange readings for its tachometer, speedometer, and vehicle information. This gives its owners an old school feels while driving which we think is a well put detail.

It is installed with a 9-inch touchscreen multimedia audio unit that comes with offline navigation, USB connectivity, mirror link connectivity for Android, and Bluetooth connectivity. But the best part about the infotainment screen is the off-road function called Clinometer Display (available only on the GLX variant).

The Clinometer Display made available on the GLX variant

The Clinometer Display includes a compass, altimeter, and barometer. It also measures the Jimny’s angle of slope via its pitching and rolling display. With this, it helps the driver run through off-road with a better understanding of the current condition of the Jimny.

Two front speakers are included all across the Jimny variants, while the GLX is the only variant that comes with two more speakers located at the back.

Both the GL MT and GL AT variants use a manual air-conditioning that gives a good classic center console aesthetics. For a modern look, the top-spec GLX variant comes with an automatic air-conditioning.

The Suzuki Jimny gives a generous amount of safety features. All Jimny variants come with SRS dual front airbags, pedal release system (brake and clutch), ISOFIX child seat anchorages (x2), side-impact door beams, anti-lock brake system, electronic stability program, hill hold control, hill descent control, and reverse parking sensors.

Suzuki Jimny Interior: A Closer Look

As standard, the Jimny comes with fabric seat upholstery material for its four seats – the rear seats have a 50:50-split single-folding configuration. The front seat cushion frames are 70mm wide and 55mm taller seatbacks contribute to good shock absorption. The sliding range for the front seats is 240mm or 9.4 inches.

Urethane chrome shift knobs are used on the GL variants while urethane piano black on the top-spec variant. All variants come with three-position front cabin light, assist grips passenger’s side, chrome parking brake release button, chrome inside door handle, and black door lock knob.

Suzuki intended the Jimny to feature a horizontal instrument panel design. It keeps the interior looks really proportionate and organized. The Japanese automaker claims that this design pattern helps the driver recognize the angle of the vehicle in rough instantaneous terrain.

A 3-spoke steering wheel is used across all of the Jimny variants – urethane for the GL variants and leather for the top-spec GLX. Included in the steering wheel are audio controls, cruise control (GLX variant only), and wheel tilt-adjust. It utilizes power steering.

The Jimny has a well-designed interior. There is a small price to pay for the top-spec variant to make the interior feel a little bit modern. But to tell you honestly, even the GL variants do not go out of style. It really complements the classic and timeless exterior design of the Jimny.

Suzuki Jimny: Should I buy it?

The Suzuki Jimny has been around for five decades which makes the mini-SUV one solid vehicle. Although it doesn’t really offer that much of expected from a 50-year-old vehicle, it still brings a rich classic exterior and interior design that may still continue for the upcoming years to come.

Looking at the interior of the Suzuki Jimny, we can tell that it is not really a suitable vehicle for a family due to its subcompact size. But if you go for a daily drive alone, then you might want to consider the Suzuki Jimny.

A classic and stylish mini-SUV that surely is a standout on the road.
