The Rolls-Royce Ghost is the British brand’s second four-door luxury sedan that follows the Phantom. Although it is remarkably smaller than the other models in the lineup, it still embodies the Rolls-Royce brand essence with the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy ornament standing proudly front and center of the bonnet. The exceptional luxury car is known as one of the best vehicles in the world, for good reason. Crafted without any compromises and built in comfort, the driver-friendly luxury sedan is decked in the highest quality materials coupled with safety-oriented technological features such as a 9.2-inch head up display and night vision. In true Rolls-Royce fashion, it also features the trademark magic carpet ride experience in all variants of the Ghost. Locally offered are two variants which are the Rolls-Royce Ghost V12 AT and the Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase V12 AT. Both are powered by a 6.6L Twin-turbo V12 gasoline engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Launch
The Rolls-Royce Ghost was first introduced globally in April 2009. A couple of years later, the extended wheelbase variant was added to the lineup. The second-generation Ghost II Series was launched locally in March 2015 during the opening of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Manila’s dealership.
The Ghost slots below the Phantom in size, but it's no less luxurious
Exterior
The Rolls-Royce Ghost follows the brand’s design philosophy of simplicity and luxury. From its previous generation, the II Series model came with a redesigned front fascia flanked with LED head lamps with anti-glare technology. The grille decked in chrome is now taller and complemented by re-sculptured front bumpers that create a dominant yet elegant face.
Its hood also received an update on the wake channel that is derived from the Spirit of Ecstasy ornament which is angled forward further. Completing the look are 21-inch alloys.
Interior
Inside, the Ghost embodies a typical Rolls-Royce in a modern fashion. Passengers can expect utmost pampering amid premium materials in the spacious cabin. Seats are wrapped in hand-stitched full-grain leather, which have been also redesigned and furnished with electronically adjustable thigh supports. It is the same type of leather used in its bigger sibling, the Phantom, but with a modified treatment to get the natural grain texture of the leather.
The signature Rolls-Royce clock and the instrument dials are trimmed with matte chrome centers, three-dimensional chrome edges, and polished metal chaplets displaying the brand’s precision for curated details.
Technology & Safety Features
The Rolls-Royce Ghost is equipped with two 9.2-inch screens, one of which is for infotainment while the other one is the head-up display. The Multi Information Display comes with a Trip Computer, radio and CD player, and a Bespoke Audio System with 18 speakers. For the driver’s convenience, the infotainment system comes navigation ready.
In terms of safety, the Ghost is furnished with the bare necessities that include an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Brake Assist, Immobilizer, Stability Control, and Front and Rear parking sensors. An advance feature which is also a standard among Rolls-Royce vehicles is the Night Vision system that comes with pedestrian and animal recognition. Adding to the drive convenience are a push start button and cruise control.
Platform & Chassis
The 4-door 5-seater luxury sedan rides on the F01 platform similar to the latest BMW models. Like the rest of the British brand’s lineup, the Ghost features the signature Rolls-Royce "magic carpet ride" adaptive suspension. The second-generation model comes with an enhanced version with new hydraulic rear axle bearings and front and rear struts. Stopping power comes from ventilated discs all around.
Engine & Drivetrain
Under the hood of the Rolls-Royce Ghost is a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 gasoline engine mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. It produces a powerful 570 hp and 820 Nm of torque and sends power exclusively to the rear wheels.
