Even the carmaker’s entry-level line gets AMG performance.

Mercedes-Benz’s A Class range has been reaping the benefits of the performance-oriented AMG unit since 2018. For 2022, the automaker unleashes the AMG A 35 hatchback for our market, bringing more than 300 horsepower and all-wheel-drive capability.

AMG performance has come to the A Class since 2018

According to Auto Nation Group, Inc., authorized distributor of Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the Philippines, the sporty subcompact five-door signals the start of performance made more accessible through the brand’s entry-level series. Apart from a more potent powertrain, there are also exterior, interior, and tech enhancements to expect on this latest iteration.

Exterior

Dimensions for the Mercedes-AMG A 35 4Matic span 4,436mm in length, 1,992mm in width, and 1,405mm in height on a 2,729mm wheelbase. The hatchback comes with a signature radiator grille that forms part of the AMG Line Exterior styling aesthetic, surrounded by LED headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist. Mounted on the front doors are the exterior mirrors that feature power-adjustment and power-folding capabilities.

The AMG aerodynamic package gives the hatchback a mean look

A large splitter is featured on the front apron, while the rear apron features four vertical fins and circular trims housing the AMG exhaust system’s tailpipes. The AMG aerodynamics package, developed using wind tunnel testing, can be bolted on to the A 35 for increased stability in high-speed handling. This includes a prominent rear wing that provides downforce.

The A 35 4Matic’s widened wheel arches house 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels, featured in a high-gloss black finish.

Interior

Even the cabin sports the AMG Line theme, with heated front seats offering electronic adjustment with memory function. Meanwhile, the rear seats can be folded 60/40 to access the rear cargo area. Designo seatbelts in red enhance the sporty vibe, accompanied by light aluminum trim pieces all around.

The roof liner is rendered in black fabric, while 64-color ambient lighting provides elegant illumination at night. AMG floor mats complement the AMG brushed stainless steel sport pedals.

Tech & Safety

The A 35 4Matic comes bristling with tech, starting with the flat-bottomed performance steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather that features buttons for AMG functions. Dual 10.25-inch displays provide real estate for a fully digital instrument panel and touchscreen running the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system, with voice commands that are easily engaged by speaking the “Hey Mercedes” prompt.

The MBUX display can be customized to display vehicle performance parameters

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both supported for smartphone linking, while wireless charging is available for the front occupants. A Burmester surround system immerses all occupants in aural bliss. The Thermotronic automatic climate control provides efficient cooling and heating through the turbine-inspired vents.

For safety, the A 35 4Matic’s high-performance braking system features anti-lock capabilities, and can also be engaged through Active Brake Assist. Acceleration Skid Regulation, Electronic Stability Program, and Hill-Start Assist are all standard as well. A pedestrian protection active bonnet reduces pedestrian injury in the event of a collision, while a bevy of driver-assist features such as Blind-Spot Assist, Active Lane-Keeping Assist, Exit Warning Assistant, and Active Parking Assist are also fitted.

Engine & Drivetrain

The A 35 4Matic rockets across the pavement with a Euro 6-compliant 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 306 horsepower and an impressive 400 Nm of torque. Acceleration from zero to 100 kilometers per hour is clocked at 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour.

It packs 302 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque under the hood

A 7-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission is actuated by the Direct Select gearshift and paddle shifters, sending power to all four wheels through the 4Matic drivetrain.

Mercedes-Benz Philippines says that pricing information is available upon request, and that it is accepting reservations for the 2022 Mercedes-AMG A 35 4Matic.
