Whichever you go for, you’ll surely have a blast.

Mention four-wheel-drive vehicles, and the Land Rover Defender will inevitably be part of that list. The iconic off-road vehicle recognized the world over is now on its new generation.

Initially, the locally-available Defender is the long-wheelbase variant (Defender 110) powered by a gasoline engine. Now, Land Rover Philippines is bringing in the short-wheelbase Defender 90, and with a diesel option for both body styles.

The prospect of getting the latest iteration of the Defender is exciting, to say the least, especially for those who can’t wait to take the vehicles to rugged terrain. Off-road enthusiasts can avail of the Defender in a selection of two body styles: the classic 90 and the longer-wheelbase 110.

Adventurers will have a blast taking the Defender out in the wilderness

The Land Rover Defender 90 offers dimensions of 4,583mm in length, 2,105mm in width, and 1,974mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,587mm and a fixed ground clearance of 226mm.

Meanwhile, the 110 has a 435mm advantage in both length and wheelbase, while standing a negligible 7mm lower. The bigger Defender trim also has a variable ground clearance ranging from the standard 218mm to 291mm for off-road.

LED headlamps are standard on the new Defender

Both the 90 and 110 are outfitted with almost the same exterior features, such as LED headlamps and tail lamps, front fog lamps, black roof rails, heated and power-folding door mirrors, as well as 19-inch six-spoke alloy wheels mounted on off-road tires. The 90 comes equipped with manual headlight leveling, while the 110 sports a small rear quarter glass.

All Land Rover Defenders get semi-powered front seats

Stepping into the cabin, equipment loadout is also practically identical on the two machines, except for the rear bench that’s fixed on the 90 and folding on the 110. Some of the standard features include 12-way semi-powered front seats, leather upholstery with cloth inserts, white cabin lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, an interactive TFT instrument cluster, and a 10-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system patched to six speakers.

2021 Land Rover Defender

Under the hood, both the Land Rover Defender 90 and 110 are powered by a 3.0L twin-scroll mild-hybrid engine that makes 395 hp and 550 Nm of torque. Diesel Defenders will carry the D240 designation, packing the 2.0L Ingenium 4-cylinder twin-turbo diesel that delivers 237 hp and up to 430 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via the 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Whereas the Defender 90 comes with a coil spring suspension, the Defender 110 Adaptive Dynamics that constantly analyzes road conditions and driving style up to 500 times a second, adjusting the air suspension setup accordingly. While front passenger ISOFix mounts are standard on the 110, it otherwise shares the 90’s safety equipment such as six airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, and 360-degree parking aid.
