The automaker will enter the Philippine market in the fourth quarter of this year.

While Omoda is still an unfamiliar brand to Filipinos, the automaker seems to have no trouble introducing itself in other markets. Omoda announced that it achieved its 100,000 sales milestones in ten countries spanning Southeast Asia, Europe, Australia, and South America.

To put this into perspective, the brand’s latest milestone is equivalent to a 6.04 percent month-on-month growth. The brand also cited export data, saying that it sold 16,686 units globally in August 2023 alone.

What makes the feat more impressive is that the Chinese automaker has not even made its first anniversary since its introduction in October 2022. This reflects how well-received the brand is in other markets ahead of its Philippine launch sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.

One of the selling points of the brand is its initiative to cater to young car buyers. Omoda said the aim is to “create a product ecosystem that resonates with their spirit and aspirations.”

This initiative will be brought by the Omoda 5 – which will arrive in an electric vehicle (EV) form. The compact crossover is designed with a sleek body matched with striking character lines. As an EV, the front end gets a closed-off grille design along with a headlight design similar to the Mitsubishi Montero Sport.

The Omoda 5 EV is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor capable of generating 201 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. In terms of range, the EV can run up to 450 km on a single charge. Moreover, the battery can be charged up to 80 percent within 35 minutes.

It would be interesting to see if Omoda could replicate the impressive global sales here in the country. The Omoda 5 will be going up against the likes of the Ford Territory, Honda CR-V, and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro.

Omoda will make its way to the country alongside Jaecoo as the O&J Brand. It is looking to open as many as eight showrooms this year. By 2024, the brand will further expand its network in a bid to reach out to more customers nationwide.
