The crossover will be arriving in the country with a wide range of ADAS functions.

While Omoda plans to officially enter the Philippine market before the year ends, the Chinese automaker has been busy bolstering its presence globally. Over in Europe, the Omoda 5 showed up big time as it scored a five-star safety rating at the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP).

In the Adult Occupant category, the Omoda 5 remained stable in the frontal offset test. However, the curtain airbag did not deploy as intended, receiving a penalty to the score for the head. For this category, the compact crossover got 33.4 out of 38 points (87 percent).

Moving to the Child Occupant category, the Euro NCAP gave the Omoda 5 42.7 out of 49 points (87 percent). While the crash test performance based on six and 10-year-old children was nearly aced, the vehicle had a perfect score for the CRS installation check.

In the Vulnerable Road Users category, the protection of the head was said to be predominantly good or adequate. Although, the stiff windscreen pillars and the base of the windscreen recorded poor results. With it, the car test program only gave a score of 37 out of 54 points (68 percent).

Last but not least, the Safety Assist was where the Omoda 5 shined. It scored 14.2 out of 16 points (88 percent). The Euro NCAP said the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed well. The lane support system was also said to gently correct the vehicle’s path and intervened in some more critical situations.

With a five-star safety rating, the Omoda 5 can be deemed as one of the safest crossovers in the market once it arrives on our shores. Further enhancing safety is the vehicle’s comprehensive advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), offering autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and emergency lane-keeping system, among others.
