It gets a turbocharged engine and plenty of advanced safety features.

Chinese car brand Jaecoo is set to launch in the Philippines in 2023 along with its sister brand Omoda. The brand’s first model for the local market will be the Jaecoo 7, a five-seater crossover SUV.

Where styling is concerned, the Jaecoo 7 follows a modern design that combines smooth and angular lines. Its vertical slatted grille is flanked by a pair of sharp-looking LEDs which appear to be its daytime running lamps, and down below on either side of the fascia might be the main LED headlamp clusters.

The side profile of this upcoming vehicle leans towards sleekness with its tapered window line and hidden door handles. Like other crossovers in the market, it does get some plastic claddings on its wheel arches and below its doors.

From the rear, one can see that the modern-styling theme continues with its LED taillight bar, and its mostly clean-looking tailgate door and lower bumper. Some degree of sportiness is then added thanks to its roof-mounted spoiler and dual-exhaust tip setup.

Step inside the Jaecoo 7 and one will see a plush but minimalist interior that’s filled to the brim with tech. According to the brand, it will come with a vertical touchscreen headunit that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is then mated to an eight-piece premium speaker system.

All of its seats are wrapped in a combination of leather and fabric, and it also comes with a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a power moon roof, keyless entry, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, etc.

One of the more notable features of the Jaecoo 7 is its 540-degree camera. The brand claims that apart from providing a view of the space surrounding the vehicle, it also provides a video feed of what’s below the vehicle. It does this by compositing a number of images from various cameras, and it might be useful for keeping track of road obstacles.

Other safety features that will find their way to this model include an advanced driver-assistive safety suite with 21 components, anti-lock braking, traction control, and hill-start assist. Providing crash safety for this ride are dual front airbags, dual front side airbags, dual curtain airbags, etc.

Under the hood, the Jaecoo 7 will use a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that can output 290 Nm of torque. Its horsepower output is yet to be shared by the brand as of this writing. Jaecoo did say that it is capable of a zero to 100 km/h time of 8.9 seconds. Furthermore, Jaecoo shared that it can return around 13 km/liter of fuel economy.

According to Omoda and Jaecoo brand manager Uzzi Asuncion, the first locally available Jaecoo 7 will use an internal combustion powerplant. Succeeding versions and other upcoming models meanwhile, will use “new energy.” That might mean hybrids and electric powertrains.
