Realistically rendered images of the 5-door Jimny have been released. Do you like what you’re seeing?

The 5-door Suzuki Jimny is one of the highly anticipated mini-SUVs after reports of Maruti Suzuki planning to manufacture one. We have known the Suzuki Jimny for 50 years as a 3-door off-road mini-SUV. But now, reports say that it will come with a 5-door variant and it will be named Gypsy.

Looking at the Maruti Gypsy, you can’t deny the resemblance it shows with the Hummer H3. With this initiative, one can hope that the sales figure will increase as the 3-door models have shown low demand in India.

While the standard Suzuki Jimny is exclusively designed in a 4WD drivetrain layout, the 5-door Jimny could be offered in 2WD to meet the different demands of Indian car buyers. The 5-door Jimny is expected to be designed with a longer wheelbase, but Maruti Suzuki will try not to stretch it for more than 4,000mm to keep the costs low and not ruin the overall aesthetics of the next-gen Gypsy.

Under the hood, the 2021 Maruti Gypsy will be powered by the same K15B 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-pot gasoline engine the Maruti Ciaz, Ertiga, and XL6 use. It is capable of generating 100 hp at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki could launch the next-gen Gypsy in India in November this year. The production of the new Jimny for export markets is expected to also start soon at the Sanand based plant in Gujarat and it is expected to be sold via NEXA outlets.

As of now, Suzuki Philippines hasn’t released any statement whether the 5-door Jimny will be available in the country or not, but it would be a great addition to the local Suzuki lineup, we reckon. The Suzuki Jimny for the Philippinemarket starts at P1,095,000 for the entry-level model GL 1.5 MT. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line GLX 1.5 AT is P1,215,000.
