1. Suzuki Jimny 2019 Philippines: Legend Reborn
Reinventing a legend was actually an enormous task and fortunately, Suzuki hasn't dropped the ball with its 4th-generation Jimny.
The new Suzuki Jimny 2019 is formulated to shine in bad weather as well as on building sites. To tell the truth, in the current auto world of fragile SUVs and crossover, the Suzuki Jimny is no doubt the real deal. A body-on-frame construction, a pan hard rod at the front, coil-sprung solid axles with 3-link location at the back, and a transfer-box set of crawler gears, make it an unbeatable all-terrain automobile.

In point of fact, the Suzuki Jimny was launched in its home market back in July. In the Philippines, Filipino motorists just met it at the 2018 PIMS and are still waiting for it to run on the open road. While biding our time, Philkotse.com will let out everything we know about the 2019 Suzuki Jimny.

2. Suzuki Jimny 2019 Philippines: Exterior Review
With a tedious and wind-cheating design, the outgoing 3rd-gen Jimny doubtlessly lost its way. The next gen model is back to basics but interestingly, this tiny terror on the trail looked handsome from every angle.
Suzuki has made it shorter than before; so for now, its overall dimensions are 3,644 mm x 1,646 mm x 1,724 (L x W x H). Plus, it comes with a long wheelbase of 2,250 mm.

It can be said that the 2019 Jimny features perfect proportions that significantly give a helping hand for its cabin and performance.
According to Director of Suzuki's Design center, Hisanori Matsushima, the clamshell hood, sturdy door handles, square-topped wheel arches, large rear tailgate with rear-mounted spare as well as the roof gutter all help prevent the water from dripping into its cabin when opening the doors. Further, a set of hefty 15-inch alloy wheel and impressive ground clearance also give force to the car while off-roading.
Not only that, it also receives a stronger ladder frame under its separate body isolated on 8 rubber bobbins.
Largely, among Suzuki cars for sale in the market, the Jimny is still one of the best looking guys.

3. Suzuki Jimny 2019 Philippines: Interior Review
The Suzuki Jimny 2019 interior is adorned with black plastic and visible stylized Allen bolts. It’s loaded with fabric seats which exude a more hose-out friendly feeling rather than luxurious vibes, yet the new wider seat bases are more comfy in case you jounce around on forest tracks.
Although the driving position is quite comfortable, it seems that the steering wheel doesn’t suite taller driver since it only adjusts for angle.

Amenities available in the 2019 Jimny include:
- Heated seats and electrically adjustable
- Heated door mirrors
- Climate control
- Satellite navigation system
- Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity
At the center of the dash, the massive touchscreen doesn't do much more than display radio and the sat nav. Unlike the rest of the outsize controls, it appears impossible to use with gloves on.
In terms of boot space, just over 85L are available for you to load luggage. Should you want to get more space (up to 376L of store space), simply fold seats at the rear down. The top trim is 1,135 kg weigh and has a towing capacity of 1,300 kg.

4. Suzuki Jimny 2019 Philippines: Safety Features
The Suzuki Jimny scored only 3 points in the European NCAP crash test with poor rear passenger side protection, potential head restraint issues and a disappointing driver’s airbag performance. But come to think of it, safety equipment levels have been ramped up already with:
- Active braking intervention
- Automatic high beams
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Lane-departure warning
- Road-sign recognition
Even though these are not state-of- the-art features, they’re still of help.
5. Suzuki Jimny 2019 Philippines: Engine & Performance
While we’re on the mechanics, the Japanese marque launched a new 1.5L K15B normally-aspirated 16-valve 4-cylinder petrol engine for the new Jimny. This engine delivers 75kW of power at 6,000rpm and 130Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm.
Generally, the refined engine is much better than the old 1.3L model’s 62.5kW and 110Nm of the predecessor. In spite of being physically larger, the 1.5L unit is actually 15% lighter than the 1.3. As per fuel consumption, on the European cycle, the Jimny sips fuel around 13.3 km/L.
Power is fed to the wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic. All the variants are part-time 4WD, with an old-school, 3-position transfer box lever on the floor making a choice of RWD and 4WD in high or low ratios. When running in RWD mode, the rear wheels will be in charge of delivering the driving force like the way the previous model did.
The Jimny performance details are negligible, yet expect that the SUV can do the 0-62 mph in 12.0 seconds before topping out 90 mph.
Mentioning performance on the road, extra structural rigidity in the chassis helps the Jimny is far more pleasant to deal with on the tough road than it was before. In the meantime, 8 rubber body mounts positioned between the upper body and the ladder frame have been remarkably retuned to improve both stability and ride comfort.

Actually, ride quality is compromised. The new Jimny is brushed up, but the workhorse still clatters through potholes, shimmies through turns and clambers over bumps. In addition, recirculating ball steering is much better and more accurate than other competitors’. That said, it is still a poor replacement for a nice rack and pinion, honestly.
When it comes to off-road credentials, the 2019 Suzuki Jimny gave us a hilly but undemanding performance. When it breezed, it never once lose traction thanks to traction control duties working well with the brakes rather than locking differentials.
Nevertheless, wet grass or similar obstacles might bring this off-roader to a stand still since such brake limited-slip systems might purely bewilder all forward motion. It’s important to note that the Jimny’s small size and light weight paired with decent off-road condition can get you a long way into the countryside; but you would have to be seriously out there to get Jimny really stuck.
Detailed Suzuki Jimny 2019 specs for the Philippine version will come later.
