Suzuki Jimny gets a tech update for 2022 model year

Subtle updates are integrated into the Japan-spec Jimny.

The fourth-generation Suzuki Jimny made its debut last 2018, and was later brought in the Philippine market the following year. Its global demand is so high that a delay in production happened. Now, in consideration of the current generation’s age, it is only right that the mini SUV gets a facelift for its 2022 model.

Same old face

Well, Japanese automaker Suzuki did deliver on the expected facelift timeline. However, it might be something that not a lot of people would’ve hoped for as the changes are only subtle or minor. And, it seems that the Jimny still has the same front end. Nevertheless, one of the three updates for the Japanese market on the 2022 Suzuki Jimny is the addition of the start/stop system.

The start/stop system is a simple yet useful feature for vehicles since its introduction in the 70s. What the system does is it automatically shuts off the internal combustion engine of the Suzuki Jimny in the event that the vehicle is in sitting in traffic idling.

With that in mind, the Japanese small SUV is said to save fuel as the idling time is reduced. Also, it cuts down emissions, an issue why the model was banned in the UK. The new start/stop system only works if on the automatic transmission Suzuki Jimny variants, and if the 2WD mode is engaged.

It gets a new spare tire cover

The other two updates for the 2022 Suzuki Jimny are the new spare tire cover and automatic headlights. That pretty much wrapped up the “facelift” version. Under the hood, the Japan-spec standard Jimny still uses the 685-cc inline-3 turbocharged engine, while the higher-spec Jimny Sierra retains the 1.5-liter K15B inline-4 engine.

As said earlier, the updated Jimny is reported to be available in the Japanese market only. It is not clear whether other markets where the Suzuki Jimny is available will follow. But since the country is infamous for bad traffic especially in Manila, the start-stop tech can be a valuable feature for the PH-spec Suzuki Jimny. Suzuki Jimny price Philippines starts at P1,095,000 for the entry-level model GL 1.5 MT. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line GLX 1.5 AT is P1,215,000.
