Thai-spec 2021 Ford Everest is a preview of what we will get.

2021 Ford Everest: What we know so far

Recently, Ford Thailand introduced the facelifted 2021 Everest along with the new Ranger. For those who aren’t aware, Ford Philippines sources the Philippine-spec (PH-spec) Everest from the Land of Smiles, as such, it will only be a matter of time before it gets here.

So before that happens, let’s check out the new Everest and what a Philippine-spec version might look like.

The Thai-spec 2021 Ford Everest Titanium+

2021 Ford Everest: Exterior

If you’ve read our article comparing the old Everest versus the new one, then you’ll know that most changes in the new one can be found on its front end. The three slats running across the grille are gone, and in its place is a new grille. Moreover, the octagonal shape of the grille makes its return. The chrome “Everest” lettering on the hood is also a new addition.

As for the sides and the rear end of the new Everest, there were no changes save for the slightly different looking set of tires. The chrome side mirrors and door handles, which are similar to the current PH-spec Trend and Titanium variants are also found on the new Thai-spec Everest. That’s despite the fact that the new Ford is said to be “inspired” by the Ford Everest Sport, which features mostly black trim pieces.

That said, we’re expecting the PH-spec 2021 Everest to come with all those exterior features mentioned. Apart from that, we’re also wishing for the new Snow Flake White Pearl color and Deep Crystal Blue color to find its way to the local market. Note though that the second color that we’ve mentioned is only available on the Titanium Sport variant, which is only available in Thailand.

2021 Ford Everest: Interior

As we’ve said, the changes in the new 2021 Everest are all cosmetic. As such, we’re expecting the Philippine-spec versions to retain the standard leather steering wheel, electrochromic rearview mirror, dual-zone automatic temperature control, third-row seats that can split in half, etc.

2021 Ford Everest: On-board tech

When it comes to on-board tech, we’re sure that the eight-inch touchscreen found on the Thai-spec Everest and the current PH-spec variants will return as well. It is, after all, an already capable head unit that comes standard on all variants. It has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, digital radio, Sync 3 with voice controls, and a premium ten-piece speaker system.

The set of safety features on the 2021 Ford Everest remains the same as well. It is still a very comprehensive suite, which includes standard features like electronic stability control with roll stability, anti-lock braking with electronic brake distribution, seven airbags, and a rearview camera.

We’re also confident that the new Titanium+ 4x4 variant and the Titanium 4x2 variant will retain its number of driver-assist features.

2021 Ford Everest: Powertrain

As with the recently released Thailand-spec Everest, the future PH-spec 2021 Ford Everest will carry over the same engine and transmission options equipped on the old one.

For the Trend 4x2 variants, that’s the 2.2-liter TDCi inline-4 diesel. The said engine is linked to a six-speed automatic, and it can churn out up to 157 horsepower and 385 Nm of torque.

Note however that this 2.2-liter engine isn’t available on the Thai-spec 2021 Everest. In connection to this, we’re speculating that Ford might be implementing a streamlining initiative. That move after all is a common trend among other car manufacturers in recent years. Car companies usually do this in order to improve resource utilization and to increase production efficiency.

What we’re saying is that it’s possible for Ford PH to drop the 2.2-liter mill for the Everest altogether to make it uniform with the Thai-spec model. However, this is just speculation, so take this with a healthy dose of skepticism.

For the Titanium 4x2 and Sport 4x2, there’s the 2.0-liter single turbo diesel mill paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It can produce up to 178 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. And lastly, there’s the 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel for the Titanium+ 4x4. Connected with a 10-speed automatic tranny, this engine can produce up to 201 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque.

This means that the Everest Bi-Turbo Titanium+ is still one of the few midsize SUVs in the market with that much torque output. Other midsize SUVs in the local market that come with 500 Nm of torque is the Toyota Fortuner and the Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Currently, those four are the available variants of the Ford Everest in the Philippines. The Thai market however also has the Titanium+ 4x2, as well as the Titanium Sport 4x2. These two use the 2.0-liter single turbo mill, combined with the ten-speed automatic gearbox. As such, they’re both priced below the Ford Everest Titanium+ 4x4.

Do you want to see the aforementioned Everest variants here in the Philippines or are you content with what we have right now?

2021 Ford Everest: Expected Prices

Currently, pricing details for the 2021 Ford Everest are limited to the Thai-market. The entry-level Everest Trend 2.0-liter variant is priced at THB 1,299,000, while the top-of-the-line Titanium+ 2.0-liter Bi-turbo sits at THB 1,799,000. Converted to current exchange rates, that’s Php 2,051,871 to Php 2,841,660.

Comparatively, the current PH-spec Everest’s price ranges from Php 1,738,000 to Php 2,299,000. As such, the future PH-spec 2021 Everest might also see an increase in prices. We’re hoping though that it won’t be as much as the Thai-spec ones. Do note also that the entry-level Thai variant comes with a more powerful engine than our current PH-spec entry-level variant. So, if Ford PH does not drop the 2.2-liter mill, the difference in pricing might not be that significant.
