About Changan Philippines
History
Changan Auto is a Chinese automaker that traces its roots as far back as 1862. It was founded by Li Hongzhang in Songjiang in Shanghai, China. Its first corporate name was Shanghai Foreign Gun Bureau, which was a military supply factory. It was then renamed Jinling Machine Manufacturing Bureau in 1865.
Changan Auto started to produce vehicles in 1957 under the Chongqing Arsenal company name. It is said that Changan Auto or Chongqing Arsenal manufactured the first China-made Jeep dubbed Changjiang-46. The said vehicle saw a production of up to 1,390 units between 1957 and 1963. It was until 1984 when the first Changan brand mini truck was introduced.
The name Changan came from a fusion of two Chinese words. Chang means lasting while An means safety. As such, ChangAn could be derived as lasting safety, which is also the brand’s core value in its diverse model lineup.
In 1984, Changan started the production of China’s first mini-car called the Star. Then in 2006, the brand launched its first passenger vehicle, the Benni. Since then, Changan started to expand its network.

Through Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc., the Chinese car brand was able to set foot in the local market again under the Changan Motor Philippines Inc. company name. During the brand’s local launch, Changan Philippines introduced a total of five vehicles, with one electric vehicle.
