Geely Coolray vs Ford Territory: Feature-rich crossovers go mano-a-mano
If you’ve been keeping up with car news, then you’ll most likely know that the local crossover segment is gaining popularity. It has become a literal war, and many car brands have introduced affordable models that come with a surprising number of onboard features.
Two examples of the aforementioned are the Geely Coolray and the Ford Territory. But how do these two compare to each other in terms of specs?
To find out, let’s compare the Geely Coolray Sport 1.5 DCT against the Ford Territory+ 1.5 EcoBoost CVT. They are similarly priced, and both are top-spec variants.

Geely Coolray vs Ford Territory: Exterior
Starting off with size, the Geely Coolray is 4,330mm long, 1,795mm wide, and 1,609mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,600mm, and a ground clearance of 196mm.
In comparison, the Ford Territory is 4,580mm long, 1,936mm wide, and 1,674mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,716mm, and a ground clearance of 180mm.

Overall, the Ford model is clearly larger than the Geely crossover. It also has a longer wheelbase, but its ground clearance is shorter than the Coolray’s by 16mm.
As for exterior equipment, both top-spec variants of the Coolray and Territory come standard with LED headlamps, LED taillights, and front fog lamps. Both also have turn signal side repeaters, and rear spoilers.
Lastly, both models ride on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. Tire sizes however are different. For the Geely, its 18-inch set is wrapped with 215/55 R18 tires. For the Ford model, its 18-inch wheels use P235/50 R18 tires.

Inside, both the Coolray Sport and Territory Titanium+ feature a modern and luxurious interior. They can both fit five occupants with ease, and both offer a lot of high-tech features for entertainment and comfort.
As standard, both the top-spec Coolray and Territory crossover models come with a sunroof, leather seats, leather-clad steering wheels with tilt and telescopic adjustment, and automatic climate controls. Also, their driver’s seats are electronically adjustable and both have fully digital gauge clusters.

For trunk capacity though, the Ford model offers a bit more at 420-liters with its seats up. In comparison, the Coolray can carry 330-liters also with the rear seats up.
Moving on to on-board entertainment, the Coolray Sport gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen with the QD-Link smartphone mirroring software. The said screen is then linked to a four-piece speaker system.
The Territory Titanium+ meanwhile, comes with a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This screen gets more speakers numbering at eight.
Geely Coolray vs Ford Territory: Engine and Performance
When it comes to power, the Coolray’s turbocharged inline-3 1.5-liter gasoline engine produces 177 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to its front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Meanwhile, the Territory’s turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine makes 141 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque at maximum. It is also a front-wheel-drive vehicle, but it uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT) instead.
To sum it up, the Coolray makes significantly more horsepower than the Territory. And the impressive part is that it does this despite using a smaller engine.

As for suspension components, both crossover models use a MacPherson strut front end. For its rear suspension though, the Geely model utilizes a torsion beam type suspension. In comparison, the Territory’s rear is a multi-link suspension. Both however, do come with disc brakes all around, as well as an electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function.

For its price, the Coolray offers a lot of safety features
In terms of safety equipment, both the Geely Coolray Sport and Ford Territory Titanium+ are very well equipped. Both come standard with automatic headlamps, stability control, traction control, anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, ISOFIX child-seat tethers, lane departure warning, speed-sensing door locks, and more. Both variants of the Coolray and Territory also come equipped with six airbags.
And of course, both crossovers are also kitted out with their respective active parking assist systems. For those unaware, these enable the two models to literally park themselves into a marked parking slot.
The Ford Territory also has a lot of safety equipment for its price
While both cars seem on par with each other when it comes to safety kits, the Ford model does have some that aren’t available on the Geely Coolray. These include blind-spot detection, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, and adaptive cruise control. The Coolray also has cruise control, but it’s non-adaptive.

To conclude, both crossovers offer a lot of bang for the buck features. If you want a practical but powerful car though, then you might be leaning more toward the Geely Coolray Sport due to its superior horsepower output.
Then again, if you want more convenience while driving, the Territory has several features that aren’t available on the Coolray such as the adaptive cruise control. Do remember however that the Territory costs a bit more, but Ford does have a larger dealership network.
