In support of conservation for the endangered mammal.

Mazda Philippines is one with Katala Foundation, a non-profit Philippine NGO that protects and conserves wildlife, as it uses its platform to raise awareness for Pangolins by launching the BT-50 4x4 Pangolin Special Edition.

Pangolins are critically endangered species and are the world’s most trafficked mammal. Mazda Philippines said that just like the Mazda BT-50, the Philippine Pangolin is reserved, yet high proficient, and a hard worker. Both parties are hopeful that the BT-50 Pangolin will inspire the conservation of the endangered mammal.

The Mazda BT-50 Pangolin Special Edition

The Mazda BT-50 Pangolin is equipped with a custom-made 17-inch ROTA alloy wheel. This helps the pickup strengthen its off-roading capabilities and it supports its 800 mm water wading depth. The custom-made ROTA wheels are complemented by a set of fender flare extensions.

Further enhancing the BT-50 Pangolin’s pickup truck toughness is a new lightweight aluminum black matte roof rack. With this, the BT-50 Pangolin is added with a more cargo-carrying capacity to the pickup truck’s 1,214 liters of available cargo volume.

Inside, passengers are benefited with a 7-inch touch screen JVC infotainment screen that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both the leather seats and leather steering wheel are blacked-out which creates a premium and elegant double cab feel.

The BT-50 4x4 Pangolin is powered by Mazda’s potent 3.2-liter 5-cylinder diesel engine capable of making 200 hp and 470 Nm of torque. The engine has the highest displacement available in the local pickup segment that helps drivers cruise through roads with ease and comfort.

“What an appropriate choice Mazda made to give the much-needed attention that the Palawan Pangolin deserves,” says Katala Foundation’s Program Director, Indira Lacerna-Widmann. “We hope that with this vehicle, we will have the right direction to achieve the conversation status of this species. It’s an honor for us.”
