The G70 compact executive sedan made its debut almost four years ago, as the third model released under Hyundai’s luxury subsidiary Genesis Motor. It’s the company’s own take on the entry-level luxury sedan, taking on a number of European rivals that have traditionally reigned over the segment.
The luxurious G70 sports sedan now has a more practical version
For those that might find the model a little too indulgent for their tastes, Genesis has taken the covers off the G70 Shooting Brake, based on the facelifted G70 that premiered last year. The more practical sport wagon is released as an exclusive for European clients, the fifth Genesis model in the region, demonstrating the automaker’s commitment to its customers in the Old Continent.
“We are delighted to reveal this bespoke product – tailored for our European customers – so soon after revealing news of our arrival into the region,” says Genesis Motor Europe Managing Director Dominique Boesch. “The G70 Shooting Brake marries luxury and European automotive heritage with our design philosophy of Athletic Elegance.”
An integrated spoiler on the rear hatch lends a sport look
Size-wise, the G70 Shooting Brake follows its sedan sibling’s proportions, measuring 4,685mm long, 1,850mm wide, and 1,400mm high, all accompanying a wheelbase of 2,835mm. The Crest Grille sits lower relative to the split-type quad headlamps, matching the air intakes with a mesh design. A prominent crease runs the length of the beltline towards the rear haunches, with the one-piece wraparound glass hatch below the integrated spoiler exuding a sporty stance.
Inside, the model boasts a 40 percent increase in luggage space over the regular G70, with the rear seats capable of split-folding in a 4:2:4 format. It’s a cabin that teems with leather surfaces on almost every available touchpoint. Beyond the three-spoke steering wheel lies a fully digital 12.3-inch gauge cluster, while an 8-inch floating-type touchscreen display handles communications, multimedia, and navigation.
The interior is as plush as that on the sedan veriant
The G70 Shooting Brake is presumed to carry a similar loadout of safety equipment that the sedan has, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, and a 360-degree Surround View Monitor.
Powering the G70 Shooting Brake is the same selection of gasoline engines found on the regular version, with a 2.0-liter gasoline direct injection engine that makes 252 hp and 260 Nm of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters channels power to all four wheels.
Genesis will be accepting orders for the G70 Shooting Brake as well as other models such as the G80 luxury sedan, GV80 SUV, and G70 sports sedan in the coming months.
