At what speed does the fastest Lambo tap out?

The Lamborghini Aventador is a mid-engine sports car first introduced in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show and was set to succeed the famous Lamborghini Murcièlago.

Getting in an Aventador is an absolute dream for many since it is the epitome of a luxury sports car in today’s time – ridiculously fast, loud, and incredibly stylish.

For the 2020 year model, the Lamborghini offers four variants, S, S Roadster, SVJ, and SVJ Roadster.

The first three Aventadors that were in production from 2011 to 2017 were the LP700-4 Roadster, LP750-4 SuperVeloce, and LP750-4 SuperVeloce Roadster. All did their part in popularizing the Aventador name in terms of high-performance figures.

As of now, the record for the fastest Lamborghini in production is the Aventador. But what exactly are the reasons for this impressive performance feature? What is the top speed of Lamborghini Aventador

Let’s find out as we discuss the different components the Aventador boasts to be able to accomplish this incredible feat.

Lamborghini Aventador: Aerodynamics

Looking at the Aventador for the first time, you can’t help but notice the fine body lines and sporty exterior design – it is arguably the best we have seen so far in a Lamborghini car.

Those details actually serve an important function. It helps the air passing through the Aventador flow smoother – or in other words, it helps the Aventador become more aerodynamically efficient.

The Aventador uses the latest 2.0 version of the Lamborghini ALA, or Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva. It features a front active spoiler located in its front bumper that guides or channels air to flow through the supercar’s body.

The front active spoiler minimizes drag for faster acceleration and helps the Aventador to reach higher speeds.

The Aventador utilizes Y-shaped headlights and rear lights

Included in the Lamborghini ALA is a rear active wing located in the main wing or spoiler structure. It basically maximizes downforce, especially in high-speed runs.

The rear active wing uses two flaps that features aero vectoring which specifically opens a flap on just one side depending on which direction the supercar will turn. With this feature, it stalls the half part of the wing or spoiler and maximizes the downforce of the other half part – resulting in a highly improved lateral acceleration.

Flaps from both the front active spoiler and rear active wing work in conjunction with one another to give the best aerodynamic efficiency as possible. The Lamborghini ALA also helps the Lamborghini Aventador achieve more efficient braking. It can stop from 100 to 0  km/h in 31 meters or 102 feet.

Lamborghini Aventador Top speed: Engine and Performance

The Aventador LP740-4 S variant uses a 6.5-liter V12 engine that is capable of producing a whopping 730 hp at 8,400 rpm and 690 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. It features an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system and has an ISR gearbox with 7 speeds.

For the Aventador LP740-4 S Roadster variant, it still uses the same V12 engine and shares the same power output. It only has been added with two carbon fiber removable roof panels. Since it is a roadster or convertible, the Aventador S Roadster got heavier by 50 kg in comparison to the S variant.

Fast and loud – recipes for a spectacular supercar

The performance got enhanced for the Aventador LP770-4 SVJ but still uses the same V12 engine. It can now generate a maximum power of 759 hp and 720 Nm of torque.

In addition to the power improvement, Lamborghini also added an extensive amount of carbon fibers to the SVJ – which resulted in a lighter and better power-to-weight ratio, but of course, it made the Aventador more expensive.

The Aventador SVJ is the first V12 Lamborghini model to feature the Lamborghini ALA system which helps the supercar achieve 40% more downforce than the SV models.

Lastly, the Aventador SVJ Roadster. It still shares the same high-performance figures with the SVJ variant and received two carbon fiber removable hardtop. It is said that this variant is limited only to 800 units.

Top speed of Lamborghini Aventador: Driving Modes

The Lamborghini Aventador comes with four different driving modes engineered to optimize the best setting depending on how the driver wants its Aventador to run.

  1. STRADA – this driving mode is best used for daily driving. It only creates loud, high-performance noises through the exhaust at high rpm and the transmission shifts earlier – resulting in better fuel efficiency.
  2. SPORT – or in other words, fun mode. It helps the V12 engine roar even at lower rpm and the throttle responds more quickly. The Sport mode uses more gasoline and sends out more power to the rear wheels for faster accelerations and higher speed runs.
  3. CORSA – best suited for track driving. This driving mode provides faster throttle response, quicker shifting to 50 milliseconds, and deactivates automatic upshifting which forces its driver to use the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
  4. EGO MODE – this driving mode gives the freedom to its drivers by allowing them to configure every individual driving setting. It gives the most personal driving experience and makes it possible to reach the vehicle’s top performance.

Lamborghini Aventador Top Speed: Conclusion

With all the lightweight components, efficient aerodynamics, an all-wheel-drive system, and high-performance engine power, the Lamborghini Aventador is crowned as the fastest Lamborghini ever built to this day.

Lamborghini has a claimed top speed of 350 km/h all across the Aventador variants. However, based on the average top speed most Aventador drivers get, their high-performance supercar taps out at 338 km/h in the 7th gear. But some claim that the Aventador can reach a speed of 354 km/h or 220 mph.

From front to back, the Aventador never fails to amaze

The S variant can run from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, while its Roadster counterpart got a slower 3.0 seconds run. On the other hand, the Aventador SVJ is claimed to be the fastest Aventador ever made with a 2.8 second 0 to 100 km/h run, while the SVJ Roadster does it in a slower 2.9 seconds due to heavier components.

It can go from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.8 seconds, and for the 0 to 300 km/h run, the Aventador can cover it for 24.2 seconds.
