The teaser features a shadowy shape, but there are dead giveaways.

On February 23, 2021, a teaser video was posted on Volkswagen Philippine’s official Facebook page. The post says that “2021 is off to a fast start as a new Volkswagen is on its way to you.” The picture of the aforementioned model was shrouded in shadow, though, and some were left guessing as to what it is.

For some sharp-eyed folks, however, it’s clearly the Volkswagen T-Cross. If you aren’t convinced, then we can take a look at existing pictures of the model and compare the teaser’s roofline and overall shape.

If you’re unaware as to what the T-Cross is, then it’s the German marque’s B-segment subcompact crossover. It is currently the smallest crossover model from Volkswagen, and it has been around in several markets since 2018. As a subcompact crossover, this model can fit up to five people. It also offers a lot of practicality with its 385-liter boot. Fold down the rear seats and space can be expanded further.

As with most VW models, the T-Cross features a quiet, but strong exterior design

The T-Cross has a whole host of powertrains depending on where it’s sold. In China, which is our market’s likely source of the model, it uses two powertrain options. The first is a 1.5-liter MPI that can make up to 113 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque.

The said engine is then paired with a five or six-speed manual tranny. The more powerful option available to the Chinese-spec T-Cross is a 1.4-liter TSI paired with a seven-speed direct-shift gearbox (DSG). All T-Cross variants are front-wheel-drive.

Other markets where the T-Cross is sold include India, Brazil, and Spain. In those countries, the said model uses other engine options like the 1.0-liter TSI inline-3, 1.4-liter TSI inline-4, etc. It even has a 1.6-liter diesel engine option in Europe. This means that it is indeed a global crossover model.
