Great timing too, as the deadline is drawing near.

Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thanos, the transition to cashless payments for our major tollways is inevitable. There’s the necessity of avoiding COVID-19 for both tollway personnel and motorists, of course, but the long-term goal is convenience. 

Demand for RFID stickers is rising as the deadline approaches 

There has been quite the confusion among car owners scrambling to get their own RFID stickers from the two operators. A number of sites have reportedly run out of stickers to issue, while others were ordered closed due to violating minimum public health protocols. It’s not unusual to see long queues and cut-offs as the deadline for full implementation looms.   

Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), which operates Easytrip, is sticking to the original November 2 deadline but will continue to persuade non-RFID holders to avail of the stickers. Meanwhile, San Miguel Corporation (SMC), which runs Autosweep, has extended its own due date to November 30, stating that its personnel will begin apprehending motorists using its tollways without RFIDs after that time.
