Digital illustrations are nearly spot-on with the production version.

The upcoming Suzuki Jimny 5-door version may not be rolling out of Japanese assembly lines yet, but it has piqued the curiosity of the automaker’s country of origin, at the very least.

Japanese website Bestcarweb previously rendered what the Suzuki Jimny 5-door version could look like [Image: bestcarweb]

Japanese auto website Bestcarweb got wind of the extended off-roader’s latest leaked image, said to be taken during a TV commercial shoot in India. The site notes that the photo of the latest Jimny in the wild is not all that different from the CG illustration it produced previously.

While the illustration from Bestcarweb depicts the vehicle at a frontal angle with the standard Jimny’s fascia and body cladding, the image from India shows the Jimny 5-door’s rear quarter angle. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be a stretch to presume that no major differences are in order.

The only real difference is that the bestcarweb image uses a contrast black roof, while the Indian photo leak shows the roof in body color. Also, Bestcarweb rendered the extended Jimny as having one-piece second-row windows, while the actual photo shows split windows on the rear doors.

According to information obtained by the website, the Jimny 5-door will be 3,850mm long, 1,645mm wide, and 1,730mm high on a 2,550mm wheelbase. The increased rear space notwithstanding, all other attributes found on the standard 3-door model such as the side-opening rear gate bearing the spare tire will be carried over.

Power under the hood will still come in the form of a 1.5-liter gasoline engine working with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. AllGrip Pro four-wheel-drive will reportedly be standard. However, there are rumors that the longer Jimny will also have a hybrid powertrain for the Japanese market.

The extended Jimny will be based on the export version of the current 3-door model

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door will initially be made in Guragaon, India, where the model is reportedly slated for a January 13, 2023 global premiere. Japanese production at the Kosai plant in Shizuoka Prefecture could come in the closing months of 2023, with an estimated price of 2.3 million yen (around Php 960,000).
