Tough on the outside, comfy on the inside.

When the words “adventure vehicle” come to mind, one would often think of a 4x4 SUV or pickup truck with a cargo rack, all-terrain tires, and a raised suspension. In a nutshell, your typical overlander build can carry your supplies and provide an exterior mounted sleeping solution.

The Nissan Urvan Mountain Base concept

At the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon however, Nissan Motor Corporation begs to differ with the Urvan/Caravan Mountain Base concept. Which, as its name implies, is an Urvan that is given almost everything an outdoor adventurer might need.

On the outside, this tricked-out van gets a set of all-terrain tires, a more robust-looking front end complete with more LED lighting, and an LED bar just on top of the windshield. And apart from its more angular front fascia, this concept Nissan Urvan also gets a roof-mounted foldout solar panel, as well as side-mounted solar panels. Of note, these side solar panels replace the regular glass windows of the van.

Here's it's comfy-looking interior

But while it is robust-looking on the outside, it gets comfy on the inside. Provided is a digital fireplace, which is more economical and environmentally friendlier than most heating solutions. It also gets a small workstation, and the interior itself is adorned with a wood-grain wrap for that rustic feel.

Moreover, the Urvan Mountain Base Concept offers some advantages that an SUV or pickup truck cannot provide. It just has more space to store stuff in, and one can actually lay a sleeping bag inside its cavernous interior.

With this concept vehicle, it seems that Nissan has come to recognize the rise of popularity of “van life” builds. For those unaware, van life or vandwellings is a particular van build that aims to modify this class of vehicle into something akin to a mobile home.

With its solar panel deployed

Of note, this van life thing has been gaining traction all over the world including the Philippines. With that said, one or two of you who are reading this might get some inspiration from Nissan’s Urvan Mountain Base concept.
