Nissan wants to re-affirm its place in the subcompact crossover segment with the new Magnite. So far, the Japanese automaker’s newest subcompact crossover is doing well specifically in the Indian market.
Nissan said that the Magnite takes its name from the words “magnetic” and “ignite.” In terms of Nissan’s model lineup, it sits below the Juke and the Kicks. The Magnite comes with an aggressive front end design that’s highlighted by sharp-looking headlights, a fang-like daytime running lights, and a large mesh grille.

As previously reported, Nissan has acquired 5,000 orders of the Magnite within just five days after its launch in India. This positive market response has resulted in a waiting list of six months for Indian buyers who ordered the entry-level trim of the Magnite.
Nissan wants to replicate the same market response in the ASEAN region as it launched the Magnite in Indonesia. The Indonesian-spec Magnite comes with a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, similar to the one equipped with the Indian-spec model. The said engine delivers 99 hp and 160 Nm of torque. It is mated to a continuously variable transmission.
Nissan Magnite comes with dual SRS airbags
In terms of safety, the Nissan Magnite got a four-star rating from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). Of note, the Indonesian-spec Magnite is equipped with dual SRS airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, Vehicle Dynamics Control with Hill Start Assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

With that in mind, the Magnite could be considered a serious contender for the Kia Stonic and the Hyundai Venue if it will be offered in the Philippine market. The power output of its 1.0-liter turbo gasoline engine is on par with the Stonic and the Venue. In fact, the Magnite has the most torque at 160 Nm as compared to the Stonic’s 132 Nm and to the Venue’s 151 Nm.
