MMDA will gradually close 13 U-turn slots in the next three months.

Motorists who are driving along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) to get to their respective workplaces might need to come up with a detour. The reason for this is that the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is set to close several U-turn slots along EDSA.

According to a report by Manila Bulletin, the MMDA will gradually close 13 U-turn slots along EDSA in the next three months to be able to come up with new bus lanes. The said bus lanes in EDSA was first implemented on July 1.

Closure of several U-Turn slots will help make travel time faster for buses plying along EDSA

MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said that three U-turn slots will be closed in Caloocan City which is the following: General Tinio U-turn slot, De Jesus Street/8th Street, and General Malvar U-turn slot.

As such, affected motorists must take a turn at Momumento Circle (northbound towards southbound) and Balintawak Cloverleaf (southbound towards northbound) to destination. On the other hand, vehicles coming from North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) taking a left turn at A. De Jesus/8th Street are advised to take A. Bonifacio Avenue, and then make a right turn at C3/Sgt. Rivera to destination.

In Quezon City, the following U-Turn slots will be closed:

  • Balintawak Market U-turn slot in front of BPI bank
  • Kaingin Road U-turn slot in front of Nissan
  • Congressional LRT Station U-turn slot in front of PANORAMA
  • Corregidor intersection / Bansalangin U-turn slots
  • U-turn slots in front of Quezon City Academy
  • North Avenue U-turn slots before MRT North Avenue Station

The implementation of EDSA Bus Lane started on July 1

Affected motorists are advised to make a U-turn at Balintawak Cloverleaf (northbound towards southbound) and Quezon Avenue (southbound towards northbound) to destination.

Moreover, the Santolan/Boni Serrano U-turn slot in front of Camp Crame will be closed. Affected vehicles along EDSA and coming from White Plains are advised to make a U-turn at the service road/intersection under Santolan flyover (northbound towards southbound) to destination.

In Makati City, the Buendia U-turn slot under Kalayaan Flyover will be closed. Affected motorist coming from EDSA Guadalupe southbound must take a U-turn at the intersection of EDA Ayala Avenue to destination.

On the other hand, the following U-turn slots in Pasay City will also be closed: P. Celle U-turn slots and U-turn slots before Roxas Boulevard near the Heritage Hotel. The MMDA said that all affected motorists coming from FB Harrison (northbound to southbound) must take the Magallanes flyover U-turn slot. Meanwhile, vehicles coming from southbound to northbound must take the signalized intersection or MOA Circle.

Pialago added that MMDA will provide alternate U-turn slots in the future that can be utilized instead of the said slots above. The agency is also saying that the closure of the said 13 U-turn slots will make travel time faster for buses driving along EDSA.
