The MG Cyberster was unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show last year, with futuristic design details inside and out. The British-bred automaker launched a mass crowd-funding program called the MG CyberCUBE, inviting fans to fund the concept electric vehicle (EV) so it can be brought to life.

Fast forward to today, the futuristic electric sports car has been confirmed for production. More than 5,000 prospective buyers signed up for the said campaign, motivating MG to start working on the concept car.
The company previously stated that the CYBER brand is an acronym that stands for Co-creating, Young, Beyond, Evolution, and Recreation. It is also an open secret that the company consistently rolls out initiatives to cultivate young talents in the field of design, including the Advanced London Design Studio. That said, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the MG Cyberster will be marketed as an affordable electric sports car.
It gets unique design details
With the Cyberster’s futuristic design and expected affordable pricing, the EV should appeal to young car buyers. MG claims that the Cyberster will be a first in the market as most electric sports cars tend to come with a high price tag. One can think of it along the lines of the Mazda MX-5, but in the era of electrification.
No official specifications have been disclosed just yet. But in the previous report, the electric sports car will deliver an 800-km range, 5G interconnectivity, and a zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of under three seconds. It is also expected to have the ‘Magic Eye’ feature which automatically opens the cover of the round headlights when switched on.
The future is promising for MG
Reports suggest that the MG Cyberster is slated to go into production by 2024, coinciding with the company’s 100th anniversary. The electric sports car will represent the automaker’s efforts in shifting its priorities into manufacturing a range of EVs, including the MG 5 EV, ZS EV, and the HS plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).
