Giving the said accolade is Cars.com, an automotive media outlet that was launched in 1998. The 2023 Best Electric Vehicle award reflects the Ioniq 5’s impressive offerings for those who are in the market for an electric vehicle (EV).

“During a time when many consumers are contemplating their first electric vehicle, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 checks all the boxes,” said Hyundai Motor North America Product Planning Director Ricky Lao.

In the report by Cars.com, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is an ideal choice for first-time EV owners as it doesn’t require a “steep learning curve.” Thanks to Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the Korean EV is capable of offering more interior space and optimized performance.

Speaking of performance, the Ioniq 5 is reported to come with an estimated EV range of 354 km to 488 km. The editorial team tested the all-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 Limited, giving them a zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of 4.72 seconds.

The editorial team commended the Ioniq 5's cabin space

Using a 350kW DC fast charger, the EV can charge from 18 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. It also offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing the vehicle to power small appliances, devices, and other EVs on the go.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 bested other finalists including the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Bolt EV.

“Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 stands out as a well-rounded all-electric SUV, which is why it’s Cars.com’s Best Electric Vehicle of 2023,” said Cars.com Editor-in-Chief Jenni Newman.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been receiving a lot of awards since its introduction in 2021. One of the most recent ones is winning the 2023-2023 Import Car of the Year in Japan, making the Ioniq 5 the first Korean car awardee at the Japan Car of the Year (JCOTY).
