The Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle (EV) added another accolade to its resume after being named the 2022-2023 Japan Import Car of the Year. This is also the first time for a Korean automaker to win an award at the Japan Car of the Year (JCOTY).

Hyundai Mobility Japan CEO Won Sang Cho said that the Ioniq 5 offers a new direction in electric mobility for Japanese customers. He added that Hyundai’s EV received positive feedback from consumers since it went on sale in Japan.
“IONIQ 5 signals a bold new direction in electric mobility for customers in Japan and around the world. Already the winner of prestigious global awards, including World Car of the Year, to be recognized in Japan is a significant achievement,” said Cho.
“Since it went on sale in Japan earlier this year, IONIQ 5 has received positive feedback from consumers who have praised the IONIQ 5's design, engineering and excellent driving range,” added Cho.

The JCOTY was established in 1980. It releases a shortlist featuring the 10 Best Cars of the Year and announces the final winners for each category after test drives and final votes from the JCOTY’s Executive Committee.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is part of the 10 Best Cars of the Year in Japan, making it eligible to claim the 2022-2023 JCOTY. But, the Ioniq 5 didn’t receive enough votes to claim the top spot at the recent JCOTY. The Nissan Sakura and the Mitsubishi eK X were named the 2022-2023 Japan Car of the Year after securing 399 points from the Executive Committee.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 ranked sixth overall with 75 points, besting other cars such as the Nissan Fairlady Z (72 points), Renault Acura (70 points), BMX iX (45 points), Land Rover Range Rover (30 points), and Suzuki Alto (28 points).
Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) said that it will start the sales for the Ioniq 5 on January 2023. It will be offered in two variants GLS 2WD S (Standard Range) and GLS 2WD L (Long Range). The Ioniq 5 Standard Range will be priced at Php 3,068,000 while the Long Range trim will retail at Php 3,698,000.

HMPH will offer the 2023 Ioniq 5 with a 5-year or 200,000 km (whichever comes first) warranty. It will also be offering the said EV with an 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty. A 5-year or 75,000 km free maintenance package is also included.

The brand’s lineup consists of the new crossovers which includes the Tucson, Santa Fe, and Creta. Under the MPV category, the Korean marque then has the new Staria model. The most affordable model in the local Hyundai lineup is the Creta's GL variant, which is priced at Php 998,000. The most expensive meanwhile is the Santa Fe, which retails at Php 2,420,000.
