Since last year, the Geely Coolray has been impressing Filipino car buyers with the numbers it is posting in terms of sales. Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the official distributor of Geely in the country, announced that the model managed to keep its place at the top of its respective category in the first quarter of this year.
The Geely Coolray is the Chinese car brand’s entry to the local subcompact crossover segment. It comes with a distinctive exterior styling with touches of sportiness thanks to the optional quad exhaust setup, rear spoiler, and aggressive body shape. Modern styling is incorporated in the interior that looks relatively upscaled for its price range.

From January to March 2021, SGAP managed to sell 744 units of the Geely Coolray, translating to 57 percent of the car brand’s overall sales in Q1 2021. The 7-seater Geely Okavango, on the other hand, registered 521 units sold, 40 percent of SGAP’s sales in the same period.
“The number speak for themselves. We are happy that we continue to maintain and even surpass our own highest record. This is reflective of our collective effort to rise above pandemic challenges,” said SGAP President and CEO Mikihisa Takayama.

The sales target of the Chinese car brand for this year in the local market is 9,500 units. But with the growing number of COVID-19 cases and the implementation of stricter quarantine restrictions, SGAP acknowledges that it will be difficult to reach its year-end goal.
However, the car brand is still optimistic regardless of the current situation especially in the National Capital Region (NCR) where the cases are rampant. SGAP Sales and Marketing General Manager Froilan Dytianquin shared, “we are still hoping that the situation gets better in the coming months for us to realize this business volume target.”
