And that's from just one showroom.

The COVID-19 pandemic affected local car sales, which obviously hit the overall operation of car brands in the country. The Philippine automotive industry is slowly getting back on its feet as dealerships are now adapting to the new normal of doing business.

According to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI), local car sales increased by 225 percent from May to June 2020. Moreover, the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors Inc. (AVID) reported a 198 percent increase in sales from May to June 2020.

With that in mind, Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the official distributor of Geely vehicles in the country, surprisingly stood out in terms of car sales in June. The Chinese car brand sold 154 Coolray units amid all the adversities.

What’s more surprising is the fact that Geely bested four car companies combined. These companies include the Auto Nation Group (distributor of Mercedes-Benz, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Jaguar, Land Rover) with 67 units sold, Legado Motors Inc. (distributor of GAC) with 3 units sold, Motor Image Pilipinas Inc. (distributor of Subaru) with 9 units sold, and The Covenant Car Company Inc. (distributor of Chevrolet) with 26 units sold. This brings us to a total of just 105 units combined.

One can expect that Geely will further solidify its brand in the local industry since the Coolray is positively received in the local market. The sales performance of the Geely Coolray can be attributed to its stylish and functional design that comes with a Php 978,000 starting price.

SGAP President & CEO Mikihisa said, “this is definitely a very positive development as every auto brand try to bounce back during this post-ECQ period. We are very delighted of this outcome since it is mainly driven by one model, the Coolray and only one showroom located in North Edsa.”
