The local subcompact crossover segment is a category that was once monopolized by the Ford EcoSport. The said segment has expanded with a lot of options from different car brands in the Philippines. In fact, there’s a new challenger that’s about to enter the local subcompact crossover battle royale yet again.
Chinese-spec Chevrolet Tracker
Last year, Chevrolet Philippines announced that it will be launching five new models this 2021, which include the Corvette, Tahoe, and Suburban. The car brand added that it is also looking to launch two other vehicles in the Philippines this year. Now, Chevrolet PH confirmed that one of the two models is going to be a subcompact crossover that goes by the name of Tracker.
The 2021 Chevrolet Tracker will officially be making its Philippine debut in July. The details about the PH-spec Tracker are scarce as of the moment, but the said subcompact crossover is also offered in the Chinese market. Speaking of which, the Philippine market could be sourcing the Tracker from China.
It comes with a sharp and aggressive exterior
The Chinese-spec Chevrolet Tracker is powered by two engine options: a 1.0-liter or a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. The 1.0-liter power unit delivers 123 hp and 180 Nm of torque. It is connected to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The 1.3-liter mill, on the other hand, generates 162 hp with 240 Nm of torque. It is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
When the Tracker was launched in China, Chevrolet has marketed it towards the “younger internet generation”. In other words, the Tracker is targeting the younger demographic of car buyers, which is the case for the currently available subcompact crossovers in the Philippines such as the Geely Coolray, Kia Stonic, Hyundai Venue, MG ZS, among many others.
It also has prominent character lines
The Chinese-spec Chevrolet Tracker comes with an aggressive exterior design that’s further emphasized by sharp character lines, and the L-shaped LED daytime running lights. The interior comes with a youthful vibe that’s highlighted by a floating infotainment system, which comes with Chevrolet’s new MyLink+, Apple CarPlay, Navigation, and more. The Chevrolet Tracker offered in China also has a speech recognition function that allows an individual to tell the vehicle to switch on the air conditioning or to turn on the headlights.

The Tracker for the Chinese market also comes with a range of advanced safety technologies, including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Pedestrian Collision Mitigation (PCM), Forward Collision Alert (FCA), Following Distance Indicator (FDI), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), a reverse camera, and electrically heated exterior rearview mirrors.
The upcoming launch of the 2021 Chevrolet Tracker would mean that the bow-tie brand will be having two subcompact crossovers in its lineup. The other car is the Trax, which is one of the early rivals of the Ford EcoSport. But, offering two vehicles under one segment is not the wisest move, right? As such, there’s a good chance that the Tracker will be replacing the Trax in Chevrolet PH’s model lineup.
